    The Volvo FL Electric will transport fresh produce daily from the Melbourne fresh food distribution centre operated by the Woolworths Group's supply chain arm, Primary Connect. Just one of two Volvo FL Electrics in Australia and 75 released globally, it is the only Volvo FL electric vehicle in Australia to be fitted with refrigeration. The jointly branded vehicle can deliver up to 8 pallets of produce to Woolworths supermarkets at a time while hardly making a sound.

    The Electric FL utilises four batteries to achieve an energy capacity of 200 kWh, such is the pace of battery development however, future iterations will feature a capacity of 265kWh. The electric driveline provides 425Nm of torque which is delivered to the rear wheels via a 2-speed automated transmission.

    Like it’s diesel-powered counterparts the Electric FL maintains a full suite of active safety systems including Autonomous Emergency Braking. The Electric FL also achieves the rigorous Swedish BOF10 crash rating which surpasses current European standards.

    A charging station at the Melbourne Fresh DC will boost the battery while deliveries are unloaded. The EV can travel up to 200km before needing to be recharged and takes nine hours to fully recharge.

    BYD & Petros Petropoulos to Sell eTrucks in Greece

    The world’s leading New Energy Vehicle manufacturer BYD has signed a dealership agreement with Petros Petropoulos for BYD eTrucks sales and aftersales in Greece. The agreement with the long-established transportation experts will see the rollout of emissions-free pure-electric eTrucks across the whole of Greece, initially from their two main locations in Athens and Thessaloniki. Petros Petropoulos, headquartered in Athens, is well known for representing world class brands. The company will be supplying the complete range of BYD eTrucks to customers in Greece, along with a highly efficient aftersales and customer support service.

    The BYD models on sale in Greece will include the ETP3 panel van designed for urban distribution operations, the ETM6 cargo truck ideal for inner city distribution, the ETH8 distribution truck, and finally the EYT yard tractor for harbour terminals and onsite operations. All BYD pure-electric vehicles provide long driving range capabilities, low noise pollution for urban and night-time operation, and with zero-emissions, are a positive step forward in providing a cleaner, healthier environment. Petros Petropoulos is accepting orders now for BYD eTrucks and eVans with deliveries commencing early in 2022.

    Capital Metro to Acquire 26 Proterra Electric Transit Buses

    Leading innovator in commercial vehicle electrification technology Proterra Inc announced that Capital Metro in Austin in Texas has approved a plan to purchase 26 40-foot Proterra ZX5 Max electric transit buses, featuring a total of more than 17 megawatt hours of battery storage capacity. The plan approved by Capital Metro also contains options for the agency to acquire an additional 126 40-foot electric transit buses and chargers over five years. Capital Metro’s first Proterra ZX5 Max buses are slated to be delivered in 2022.

    Designed and manufactured in the United States, Proterra’s electric transit buses are equipped with the company’s industry-leading battery technology systems. The 40-foot Proterra ZX5 Max selected by Capital Metro features 675 kWh of energy storage to deliver up to 329 miles of drive range on a single charge, which represents the most energy storage and longest drive range of any 40-foot electric bus available in the market today.

    Capital Metro has established a goal to transition its entire fleet of more than 400 transit vehicles with zero-emission buses.

    Automaker General Motors bouwt een groot onderzoekscentrum met de ambitie om elektrische auto's een actieradius van ongeveer duizend kilometer te geven.

    De Amerikaanse automaker General Motors (GM) steekt 'honderden miljoenen dollars' in een nieuw onderzoekscentrum in Michigan. Doel is de ontwikkeling van auto-batterijen die het langer volhouden, sneller opladen en duurzamer zijn voor het milieu. Dat meldt GM dinsdag.

    Actieradius van bijna 1000 kilometer
    GM wil een batterij maken waarmee een auto op één lading 600 mijl kan rijden – zo'n 950 kilometer. De gemiddelde huidige elektrische auto houdt het zo'n 300 tot 500 kilometer vol op één lading. De Tesla Model S Long Range komt even boven de 500 kilometer uit, en de volgende Tesla Roadster moet in 2023 een bereik van rond de 1000 kilometer krijgen.

    Onlangs onthulde het Amerikaanse bedrijf Lucid een nieuwe elektrische sedan met een actieradius van 837 kilometer, voorlopig het grootste rijbereik tot nu toe bij een elektrische auto. De eerste modellen worden later dit jaar geleverd.

    Toekomst in omstreden technologie
    GM wil uiteindelijk batterijen maken met een energiedichtheid tot 1200Wh per liter, waarbij zogenoemd metallic lithium wordt gebruikt. Die vorm van lithium heeft een zeer hoge energiedichtheid, maar is daarom tot nu toe ook zeer lichtontvlambaar. Volgens sommige experts zijn dergelijke batterijen niet levensvatbaar, maar GM ziet er wel toekomst in.

    Op kortere termijn voorziet GM zijn elektrische auto's overigens van zijn Ultium-architectuur. Die wagens hebben dan een bereik van ruim 600 kilometer, in lijn met concurrent Tesla. Die accu-technologie wordt volgend jaar voor het eerst toegepast, in de nieuwe elektrische Hummer-pickup.

    Ford Investing in Electric Vehicles Campus in Tennessee

    Ford Motor Company is announcing plans to bring electric vehicles at scale to American customers with two new massive, environmentally and technologically advanced campuses in Tennessee and Kentucky that will produce the next generation of electric F-Series trucks and the batteries to power future electric Ford and Lincoln vehicles. Ford plans to make the largest ever US investment in electric vehicles at one time by any automotive manufacturer and, together with its partner, SK Innovation, plans to invest USD 11.4 billion and create nearly 11,000 new jobs at the Tennessee and Kentucky mega-sites, strengthening local communities and building on Ford’s position as America’s leading employer of hourly autoworkers.

    An all-new USD 5.6 billion mega campus in Stanton, Tenn., called Blue Oval City, will create approximately 6,000 new jobs and reimagine how vehicles and batteries are manufactured. Blue Oval City will become a vertically integrated ecosystem for Ford to assemble an expanded lineup of electric F-Series vehicles and will include a BlueOvalSK battery plant, key suppliers and recycling. Ford’s new Tennessee assembly plant is designed to be carbon neutral with zero waste to landfill once fully operational.

    In central Kentucky, Ford plans to build a dedicated battery manufacturing complex with SK Innovation, the USD 5.8 billion BlueOvalSK Battery Park, creating 5,000 jobs. Twin battery plants on the site are intended to supply Ford’s North American assembly plants with locally assembled batteries for powering next-generation electric Ford and Lincoln vehicles. Investments in the new Tennessee and Kentucky battery plants are planned to be made via BlueOvalSK, a new joint venture to be formed by Ford and SK Innovation, subject to definitive agreements, regulatory approvals and other conditions.

    TotalEnergies & China Three Gorges EV Chargers in Wuhan & Hubei

    TotalEnergies and China Three Gorges Corporation, through its two affiliates CTG Capital and CTG Electric Energy) have signed an agreement to establish a Joint Venture in electric mobility in China. This equally owned company will develop Electric Vehicle high power charging infrastructure and services within the Hubei Province, through the installation and operation of more than 11,000 high power charge points by 2025

    This JV will build on TotalEnergies’ worldwide expertise in electric mobility and CTG strong capability in green energy production and supply. The two companies intend to develop co-branded high power charging hubs and standalone stations, open to the general public, equipped with 60 kW to 120 kW power charge points and with an average hosting capacity ranging between 20 to 50 vehicles each. The partners will also build dedicated charging stations on the premises of B2B customers, to meet their needs. Finally, in line with the partners’ respective ambitions to carbon neutrality, the electricity used to power this new network will be produced mostly from renewable sources.

    CTG Corporation, operator of the Three Gorges Dam, is China’s largest clean energy corporation and the world largest hydro-power producer. It has developed more than 30 GW of hydro, wind and solar power generation capacities in China and overseas – namely in Europe – over the past five years. TotalEnergies has been present in Wuhan and in Hubei province since 1995, notably through its network of branded fuel service-stations, its lubricant business and its affiliate Hutchinson.

    GM to Reach 100% Renewable Energy in US by 2025

    General Motors announced that it plans to source 100 percent renewable energy to power its US sites by 2025, five years earlier than previously announced, and 25 years ahead of its initial target that was set in 2016. By accelerating its renewable energy goal, GM aims to avoid 1 million metric tons of carbon emissions that would have been produced between 2025 and 2030.

    Earlier this year, GM announced its Science Based Targets, as well as plans to become carbon neutral in its global products and operations by 2040 aligned with the aspiration to eliminate tailpipe emissions from new light-duty vehicles by 2035. The company has committed to invest $35 billion in electric and autonomous vehicles and plans to introduce more than 30 electric vehicle models globally by 2025.

    Sourcing renewable energy is a critical component of GM’s plans to decarbonize its portfolio. As it works toward fulfilling its climate commitments, the company is focusing its renewable energy efforts on four pillars:

    1. Increasing Energy Efficiency: GM’s energy goals begin with reducing energy consumption by improving energy efficiency. For 10 years, GM has been awarded the EPA Energy Star Sustained Excellence Award for its energy efficiency efforts.

    2. Sourcing Renewables: While it works to minimize the amount of energy required to run its facilities, GM also sources renewable energy through direct investment, green tariffs and power purchase agreements. This is the main avenue through which GM will achieve its renewable energy goal.

    3. Addressing Intermittency: GM is creating technology to store renewable energy over the medium and long term, so its power consumption is not disrupted by external fluctuations.

    4. Policy Advocacy: Policy efforts are essential to expand transmission, create microgrids that help deploy renewable energy, and enable markets to price these solutions to enable a carbon-free resilient power system. GM supports policies that enable a carbon-free, resilient power system.

    Additionally, GM announced that it is collaborating with PJM Interconnection, a regional transmission organization, and TimberRock, a technology-enabled energy company, to track the real-time carbon emissions at GM’s facilities associated with electricity use. This carbon tracking initiative enables GM to make strategic decisions about its energy consumption based on the carbon output of the grid at a given time. When the power being supplied consists mostly of fossil fuels, GM can make informed decisions about tapping into stored renewable energy or reduce the amount of power being consumed.

    30 Solaris Electric Buses to Jpin AMT in Genoa in Italy

    Solaris is the undisputed leader in the sale of electric buses in Italy. In recent days, the manufacturer has achieved another success in this segment, winning a tender for the delivery of as many as 30 e-buses to an AMT customer in Genoa. The coastal city wants to replace its fleet with electric buses only by 2025. The value of the new contract exceeds EUR 15 million.

    The fleet of Azienda Mobilità e Trasporti SpA in Genoa will soon be joined by 30 Solaris electric buses. The investment in innovative rolling stock is part of the Italian carrier’s extensive plan to fully electrify the city’s bus fleet. According to the agreement, the innovative vehicles will be delivered to the capital of Liguria in the first quarter of 2022. The value of the order is over EUR 15 million.

    Solaris buses have been known to the inhabitants of Genoa since 2013. For the first time, however, the manufacturer will deliver electric vehicles to a coastal Italian city. The carrier decided on the flagship Urbino 12 electric, which was hailed the Bus of the Year 2017.

    The comfortable interior of the Urbino 12 electric can accommodate 24 seated passengers. Climatic comfort will be ensured by efficient and ecological air conditioning with a CO2 heat pump. The complete driver’s cabin will additionally facilitate the driver’s work, and the safety of driving will be increased by MirrorEye cameras instead of side mirrors, which increase the field of view, but also improve visibility in strong sunlight, in rainy weather and after dark. Moreover, thanks to this solution, the vehicle is narrower, which increases its aerodynamics and allows easier maneuvering in the narrow and narrow streets, which are common in Genoa.

    To increase safety during the coronavirus pandemic, the carrier has opted for an internal air purification system that will help stop the spread of the virus. In addition, the interior of the bus will be covered with a nanotechnology-based transparent protective coating with microscopic ceramic particles.

    De Chinese producenten zijn aan een stevige opmars bezig. Ze willen dan ook zo snel mogelijk hun wagens aan de man brengen. En dat leidt tot een ongeziene snelle productie van elektrische wagens. De Chinese producenten Xpeng en Nio zijn er namelijk in geslaagd om elk 100.000 wagens te produceren in zes jaar tijd. Tesla deed er twaalf jaar over. Dat meldt CNBC.

    Tesla is niet langer de alleenheerser op de markt van de elektrische wagens. De producent krijgt voornamelijk veel concurrentie uit China. De Chinese producenten, waaronder Xpeng en Nio, maken er geen geheim van dat ze internationale ambities hebben.

    Xpeng liet maandag weten dat er in totaal al 100.000 wagens van de band zijn gerold. Dat is zes jaar na de lancering van het bedrijf. Ook Nio is aan een ongeziene snelheid elektrische wagens aan het produceren. Dat bedrijf kondigde in april al aan dat het de kaap van 100.000 geproduceerde wagens had gerond. Nio zag in 2014 het levenslicht.

    Sneller dan Tesla
    De Chinese producenten doen het op dat vlak beter dan Tesla. De Amerikaanse autoproducent had maar liefst twaalf jaar nodig om 100.000 elektrische wagens te produceren. Dat blijkt uit de openbare documenten die het bedrijf van Elon Musk heeft ingediend bij de SEC.

    Dat Tesla er twee keer zo lang over deed is geen verrassing. Sinds de oprichting in 2003 moest Tesla het hoofd bieden aan talloze productievertragingen, voornamelijk in de beginjaren. De Amerikaanse producent van elektrische wagens heeft sindsdien zijn productiecapaciteit verhoogd met nieuwe fabrieken in Shanghai en Berlijn.

    Tesla blijft wel de grootste producent
    Ondanks de forse productiesnelheid bij de Chinese concurrenten blijft Tesla de grootste producent van elektrische wagens. In maart 2020 had het bedrijf officieel 1 miljoen wagens geproduceerd. Musk heeft toen het nieuws bekendgemaakt via zijn favoriet socialemediakanaal Twitter.

    Vraag blijft hoelang Tesla de Chinese producenten ver achter zich zal kunnen laten. Nio en Xpeng doen het namelijk zeer goed in eigen land. Dat komt onder meer omdat de wagens die ze op de markt brengen doorgaans goedkoper zijn dan die van Tesla.

    Daarenboven steken de twee wagenproducenten hun internationale ambities niet onder stoelen of banken. Zowel Nio als Xpeng zijn momenteel de Europese markt aan het verkennen. Nio lanceerde op 30 september zijn ES8 SUV in Noorwegen en opende het eerste Nio House in de hoofdstad Oslo. In het vierde kwartaal van 2022 wil het bedrijf ook de Duitse markt betreden. Xpeng heeft in datzelfde land in augustus de P7 Sedan op de markt gebracht.

    Production of eActros Starts at Mercedes-Benz Plant Wörth

    The world premiere of the Mercedes-Benz eActros took place at the end of June, and now the first series-production vehicle rolled off the production line in the new Future Truck Center at the Wörth plant. The official opening of the production line and the start of operations at the largest assembly plant of Mercedes-Benz trucks were taken over by Daniela Schmitt, Minister of Economics in the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, and Karin Rådström, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler Truck AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Trucks, together with Sven Gräble, Head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Operations, Dr Andreas Bachhofer, Head of Plant & Production Wörth, and Thomas Zwick, Chairman of the Works Council at the Wörth plant.

    The heart of the eActros series production is the Future Truck Center, the production hall in building 75, which was officially put into operation with the start of today’s series production. In the future, the electrification of further CO2-neutral Mercedes-Benz trucks will also take place here. Series production of the eEconic, developed for municipal use, is scheduled to start in the second half of 2022. The battery-electric eActros LongHaul for long-distance transport is scheduled to be ready for series production in 2024.

    Before the eActros comes to the Future Truck Center for its electrification, it will be flexibly manufactured on the existing assembly line alongside trucks with conventional drive systems. Basically, the assembly of different vehicle types will take place in an integrated manner as far as possible and the basic structure of the vehicle will be built on one assembly line – regardless of whether a conventional combustion engine or an electric powertrain is installed.

    The eActros then goes to the Future Truck Center, where the electrification of the vehicle takes place. Intensive preparations for the new production processes have been made there in recent months. This includes, among other things, the construction of a new assembly line. Step by step, the eActros will be further assembled here. In addition to the high-voltage batteries, other high-voltage components are assembled in various production steps, including the charging unit. It forms the interface through which the vehicle is connected to the charging station. Once all the components have been assembled, the entire system is put into operation at the Future Truck Center. The truck is then ready to drive. The vehicle is reintegrated into the regular production process for finishing and final inspection.

    Renault to Partner with Terrafame for Nickel Supply

    Renault Group and pioneer in the European EV market, and Terrafame, a company operating one of the world’s largest production lines for EV battery chemicals in Finland, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the future supply of nickel sulphate. With this agreement, Renault Group will secure a significant annual supply of nickel sulphate from Terrafame, representing up to 15 GWh of annual capacity. The cooperation will start by paying particular attention to sustainability systems and defining detailed metrics for traceability beyond solutions currently used for EV battery chemicals production.

    Renault Group is spearheading the deployment of higher performing, low-carbon and reusable batteries while building a unique and leading electric ecosystem in Northern France known as Renault ElectriCity. Combined with the recent partnership with Vulcan to secure low-carbon lithium and the alliance with Veolia & Solvay to recycle battery materials in a closed loop, this new agreement marks another step towards the reduction of the environmental footprint of EVs throughout their life cycle and towards the objective of carbon neutrality for the Group in Europe by 2040.

    The direct partnership between a leading OEM manufacturer such as Renault Group and upstream production like Terrafame is a game-changer in the battery materials value chain. Terrafame’s bioleaching-based production process (extraction of metals from their ores through the use of living organisms) uses about 90% less energy in the production of nickel sulphate than the industry average. In addition, Terrafame’s integrated production process begins and ends on one industrial site from a mine to battery chemicals production. These unique and energy-efficient features enable a fast-track to implement sustainability systems and create full transparency throughout the entire value chain. Apart from the detailed metrics, a commitment over the entire supply chain simplifies risk management and pricing mechanisms for all parties involved.

    The memorandum is not exhaustive but reflects the parties’ mutual understanding and common intention to deepen the cooperation over the battery raw materials. The parties seek to introduce a set of binding agreements involving also other actors in the EV battery value chain to take part in this development step.

    Stellantis Investing in Indiana to Accelerate Electrification

    Stellantis announced that it would invest a total of USD 229 million in three of its Kokomo in Indiana plants to help the company reach its goal of achieving 40% low-emission vehicle sales in the US by 2030. This announcement, which will retain 662 jobs, comes three months after the company laid out its long-term electrification strategy, where it committed to investing $35 billion through 2025 in electrification and software.

    The investment will support retooling of the Kokomo Transmission, Kokomo Casting and Indiana Transmission plants to produce the fourth-generation eight-speed transmission. This new transmission will have the flexibility to be paired with internal combustion engines, as well as mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid propulsion systems, for vehicles across the Jeep®, Ram, Chrysler and Dodge brands. It will deliver improved fuel economy, provide pure-electric range and help vehicles meet future emission regulations.

    The new, fourth-generation, eight-speed transmission will capitalize on a number of common parts within the different versions – transmission gear train/clutch, mechatronics, mechanical pump and E-pump motor. It also will have the flexibility for unique parts to adapt to the various electrification options. These parts include the eMotor, torque converter and power electronics.

    Adding electrified transmission assembly also diversifies the product portfolio of the Kokomo operations. In March 2020, Stellantis announced it would invest USD 400 million to convert Indiana Transmission Plant II to the Kokomo Engine Plant to produce the GMET4 engine, the company’s 2.0-liter Global Medium Engine inline four-cylinder turbo. Production is expected to launch later this year.

    This investment also leverages the core manufacturing competencies of the Kokomo operations and the local workforce in the areas of casting, machining and assembly, all of which will be needed as the market transitions to an electrified future.

    The second-generation eight-speed transmission has been a workhorse of the company’s powertrains since production began in 2012. KTP celebrated the 5 millionth eight-speed transmissions built on Septeme. 30. It is the current transmission option on the Jeep Wrangler, Gladiator and Grand Cherokee; Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer; Ram 1500; Dodge Charger, Challenger, Durango; and Chrysler 300 models.

    Volvo Cars has started production of the C40 Recharge, its latest fully electric model, at its manufacturing plant in Ghent in Belgium. The C40 Recharge is Volvo Cars’ second fully electric car and is the latest in a series of new pure electric cars to be launched in the coming years. By 2030, Volvo Cars aims to sell only fully electric cars, one of the most ambitious electrification strategies in the car industry. It also aims to be a climate neutral company by 2040.

    The Ghent plant, one of the company’s largest, is a trailblazer in Volvo Cars’ move towards all-out electrification. It also produces the XC40 Recharge, the fully electric version of the company’s award-winning compact SUV and Volvo Cars’ first fully electric model.

    Volvo Cars is increasing electric car capacity at the Ghent facility considerably, to 135,000 cars per year, and already expects more than half of the plant’s production volume in 2022 to consist of fully electric cars.

    The C40 Recharge is the latest manifestation of Volvo Cars’ ambitions for a zero-emission future. The company will roll out several additional electric models in coming years and aims for 50 per cent of its global sales volume to consist of fully electric cars already by 2025, before becoming fully electric by 2030.

    The BMW Group is stepping up its expansion of electromobility and will be releasing about ten million fully-electric vehicles onto the roads over the next ten years or so. By 2030, at least half the BMW Group’s global sales are expected to come from fully-electric vehicles. This will also increase the need for lithium, an important raw material for production of battery cells.

    To promote environmentally-friendly, resource-efficient extraction of lithium, the BMW Group is investing, through its venture capital fund, BMW i Ventures, in an innovative process developed by US startup Lilac Solutions. Lilac Solutions has developed and patented an ion exchange technology that will significantly improve efficiency, costs and sustainability by extracting lithium from brine resources, which are natural deposits of salt water.

    Lilac Solutions has developed a new ion exchange technology to make mining lithium from brine resources more efficient and cost-effective. The company seeks to significantly reduce environmental impact compared to conventional methods, while, at the same time, protecting local communities and ecosystems. The technology has already been proven in initial field pilots and must now demonstrate that it can be scaled and industrialised in the mid-term. The process could then be used with brines worldwide, even if they have a low lithium content.

    The BMW Group has made sustainability and resource efficiency central to the company’s strategic direction. A key aspect here is compliance with environmental and social standards in the supply chain. Eliminating infringements of human rights and environmental standards presents a particular challenge in the case of critical raw materials – as is the case with lithium. For this raw material, BMW Group Purchasing has implemented therefore additional measures and is sourcing lithium directly from the mines and making it available to battery cell suppliers. In this way, the company creates complete transparency about the origin and mining methods of the material.

    LG betaalt GM flinke vergoeding voor accuproblemen Ampera-e en Bolt

    General Motors heeft een schikking getroffen met het Zuid-Koreaanse LG Electronics over de kosten die GM moest maken voor het terugroepen van de Chevrolet Bolt en Opel Ampera-e, omdat de accu van de elektrische auto's zomaar in brand kon vliegen.

    Vanwege het brandgevaar van de Chevrolet Bolt werden meer dan 140.000 auto's terug naar de garage geroepen. Ook Opels evenknie Ampera-e werd door de terugroepactie geraakt. In Nederland werden alle 3.373 geleverde exemplaren teruggeroepen. Van zowel de Bolt als de Ampera-e werden de accu's vervangen. GM krijgt hiervoor van LG nu een vergoeding van 1,9 miljard dollar, omgerekend meer dan €1,6 miljard.

    GM waarschuwde eigenaren van de Bolt om hun auto niet binnen te parkeren en ook niet in de buurt van gebouwen en andere auto's. Ook raadde de autobouwer af om de batterij 's nachts op te laden. Volgens het concern zijn er meer dan tien branden geweest door oververhitting van de accu. Overigens zat er voor de gedupeerden nog wel een mooie kant aan de zaak. De nieuwe accu's in de Bolt en Ampera-e hebben een ongeveer 10 procent grotere capaciteit.

    Honda HR-V nu ook volledig elektrisch

    AutoWeek kan je de eerste foto's laten zien van de volledig elektrische versie van de Honda HR-V. In feite gaat het om de productieversie van de begin dit jaar gepresenteerde Honda SUV:e Concept.

    In april dit jaar liet Honda in Sjanghai de SUV:e Prototype zien, een vooruitblik op een volledig elektrische versie van de reeds bekende nieuwe HR-V. AutoWeek kan je de productieversie van die elektrische HR-V nu al laten zien. Dan direct het slechte nieuws: de elektrische Honda HR-V komt niet naar Europa.

    De elektrische SUV die je op deze foto's ziet, is een door het samenwerkingsverband Dongfeng Honda ontwikkelde variant van de HR-V die in China op de markt komt. Honda gaf in april dit jaar dan ook aan dat het vooralsnog geen nieuw elektrisch model voor de Europese markt op de planning had staan. Dat deze overigens niet HR-V maar e:NS 1 geheten elektrische versie van de hier bekende cross-over niet naar Europa komt is best een gemis.

    Honda SUV e: Prototype

    Specificaties
    Hoewel de complete technische specificaties van deze elektrische Honda nog niet bekend zijn, kan AutoWeek in de database van het Chinese Ministerie van Transport en Technologie, waar we deze foto's hebben opgedoken, wél al de eerste interessante cijfers vinden. De elektrische variant van de Honda HR-V krijgt namelijk een 68,8 kWh groot accupakket. Dat pakket valt straks te combineren met twee elektromotoren. Er komt een variant met een 182 pk sterk accupakket en een die 204 pk sterk is. De topsnelheid van beide versies bedraagt 150 km/h.

    Vanbuiten lijkt deze elektrische Honda e:NS 1 sterk op de HR-V, al zijn er verschillen. Zo wijkt het bumperwerk rondom af van de hybride HR-V die we in Nederland kennen. Daarbij heeft deze elektrische SUV een dichte grille en een afwijkende bilpartij. De lichtstrip die op de Europese HR-V de achterlichten aan elkaar verbindt en wordt onderbroken door het Honda-logo, krijgt op de e-NS 1 vrij baan. Honda schrijft zijn merknaam namelijk onder die ledstrip uit, zoals tegenwoordig helemaal hip is in autoland.

    Is dit de eerste elektrische HR-V van Honda die aan Europese neus voorbijgaat? Welnee. Dongfeng Honda had van de vorige HR-V namelijk deze elektrische M-NV in het gamma terwijl het tweede Chinese samenwerkingsverband van Honda, GAC Honda, op basis van diezelfde HR-V deze Everus VE-1 op de menukaart had staan.

    Deze elektrische variant van de Honda HR-V komt dus niet naar Europa. Een onverstandige zet van Honda? Laat het ons weten in de reacties!

    Leaseplan: elektrisch rijden niet langer duurder

    Rijden met een kleine of middelgrote elektrische auto is in de meeste landen in Europa niet meer duurder dan een conventionele auto. In de landen waar dat nog niet zo is, is het prijsverschil kleiner geworden en als de trend doorzet, dan zal ook daar elektrisch rijden nog voor het midden van dit decennium de aantrekkelijkste optie zijn.

    Dat stelt Leaseplan op basis van berekeningen die de leasemaatschappij donderdag heeft gepubliceerd. Nederland behoort tot de landen waar volgens Leaseplan elektrisch rijden goedkoper is. Een wagen uit de middenklasse die op accu's rijdt, kost de automobilist maandelijks gemiddeld €950. Voor een vergelijkbare benzinewagen is de autobezitter €1172 kwijt en wie diesel moet tanken betaalt zelfs €1299. In de kosten zijn behalve brandstof of stroom, ook afschrijving, belastingen, verzekeringen en onderhoud meegenomen.

    Zwitserland is het duurste land voor automobilisten, met een gemiddeld maandelijks prijskaartje van €1138. Rijden in Griekenland kost daarentegen maar €743 per maand. Afgezet tegen het bruto binnenlands product zijn Duitsland en Denemarken de goedkoopste landen en Zwitserland en Portugal de duurste. Wie graag in een benzineauto rijdt, is het goedkoopste uit in Polen. Voor diesel is dat Griekenland.

    Honda laat nieuwe elektrische modellen zien

    Honda trekt in een ruk een blik nieuwe elektrische modellen open. We krijgen onder meer twee elektrische versies van de HR-V en een drietal conceptuele nieuwkomers te zien.

    Honda maakt zijn elektrificatieplannen met het jaar concreter. Inmiddels is bekend dat het merk vanaf 2022 in Europa alleen nog geëlektrificeerde modellen levert. Dat doet het vermoeden rijzen dat zelfs de nieuwe Civic Type-R een beetje elektrohulp krijgt. Vanaf 2040 verkoopt Honda vervolgens alleen nog volledig elektrische auto's. De enige EV die Honda momenteel in Europa verkoopt, is de Honda E. Het merk heeft dus nog een lange weg te gaan, maar in China druppelen de eerste nieuwe elektrische modellen binnen. Honda kondigt er namelijk een kleine vloot nieuwe elektrische auto's aan en meldt daarbij direct dat het vanaf 2030 in China alleen nog geëlektrificeerde auto's verkoopt.

    Honda e:NS1

    Honda laat twee productierijpe elektrische modellen zijn: de e:NS1 en de e:NP1. AutoWeek kon je onlangs al de eerste foto's van de productieversie van de e:NS1 laten zien. De e-NS1 is een elektrische versie van de hier ook bekende Honda HR-V die het samenwerkingsverband Dongfeng Honda in China gaat verkopen. De e:NP1 die Honda laat zien, is feitelijk precies dezelfde auto, al betreft dat het exemplaar dat door Honda's tweede Chinese joint-venture gaat worden gevoerd: GAC Honda. Opvallend is dat de e-NS1 van DongFeng Honda onder meer is aangekleed met een achterspoilertje, wat doet vermoeden dat dat de 204 pk sterke elektrische variant is. Er zit namelijk ook een 182 pk sterke uitvoering in het vat. Uit de door AutoWeek eerder opgedoken informatie blijkt dat beide versies een 68,8 kWh accu krijgen. Honda heeft deze gegevens nog niet bevestigd. Wel meldt het dat de e:NS1 en e:NP1 komend voorjaar in China in de verkoop gaan.

    Honda HR-V (e-NS1)

    De modelnamen van de eerste tien elektrische auto's die Honda in China introduceert, beginnen allemaal met e:N. De 'N' staat in dit geval voor New en Next. Het e-tje gevolgd door een dubbele punt kennen we bij de Europese Honda's al van de modellen met e:HEV-hybride aandrijflijn. Dat Honda bloedserieus is met zijn Chinese EV-plannen, blijkt onder meer uit de aankondiging dat zowel GAC Honda als Dongfeng Honda er eigen fabrieken krijgen die puur en alleen EV's produceren. De eerste EV-fabriek moet al in 2024 zijn poorten openen.

    Honda

    Honda geeft direct de eerste foto's vrij van drie elektrische concept-cars waarover het later meer informatie vrijgeeft. De e:N SUV Concept, e:N GT Concept en e:N Coupé Concept zijn stuk voor stuk opvallend hoekige elektrische modellen waarvan de typenamen de carrosserievorm prijsgeven. Het is opvallend dat Honda voor zijn Chinese EV's een hoekig designpad bewandelt terwijl het voor de in Europa en de Verenigde Staten geleverde Honda E een retroroute heeft gekozen. Vooralsnog heeft Honda voor de Europese markt geen nieuwe EV's in het vat zitten, al komen die ongetwijfeld later.

    MAHLE is now an official series partner to DTM Electric and will make a significant technological contribution to the sustainable racing series. The technology group has decades of experience and expertise in motorsports and is a pioneer in the field of thermal management, i.e., heating and cooling, for electric vehicles. MAHLE will develop and supply the thermal management components for the traction motors, transmissions, and power electronics for the DTM Electric championship. The Group may also incorporate its new immersion cooling technology, which makes it possible to charge batteries in just a few minutes.

    MAHLE has been active in motorsports for many decades and has brought its know-how to bear in all of the world’s major racing series. In its partnership with DTM Electric, the Group will now combine this wealth of experience with its holistic systems competence in thermal management. For example, MAHLE has been a series producer in the battery cooling segment for more than a decade.

    There are also plans to fit new MAHLE thermal management components for battery cooling in DTM Electric race cars. The Group is currently developing new immersion cooling technology, which offers a highly efficient way of cooling battery cells evenly. This is vital given the high power demands in motorsports and also means that race cars can be fully recharged in just a few minutes.

    In the future, the DTM Electric racing series will run alongside the successful DTM. It will be an additional series for fully electric high-performance race cars with over 1,000 hp under the hood, offering green, innovative, and at the same time thrilling motorsports entertainment.

    Nissan Unveils Intelligent Factory at Tichigi Plant

    Nissan has unveiled a production line at its Tochigi Plant featuring the Nissan Intelligent Factory initiative. This unique initiative supports the manufacture of next-generation vehicles using innovative technologies and contributes to the realization of carbon neutrality. Nissan also announced a roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 at its production plants around the world.

    Since its foundation, Nissan has honed its ability to manufacture vehicles through high quality and highly efficient production processes and the superb skills of the company’s takumi (master technicians). However, the business environment surrounding manufacturing is undergoing major changes. In Japan, there is a need to break away from conventional labor-intensive manufacturing to cope with an aging society and serious labor shortage. Unforeseen situations, such as climate change and pandemics, also need to be managed. At the same time, industry trends in electrification, vehicle intelligence and connected technologies are making vehicle structure and functionality more advanced and complex.

    Nissan introduced the Nissan Intelligent Factory initiative at its Tochigi Plant to respond to these needs and trends. Nissan Intelligent Factory enables Nissan to:

    1. Use robots that have inherited the skills of takumi to manufacture next-generation vehicles; of the highest quality,

    2. Create an improved environment where a wide range of people can work comfortably, and;

    3. Realize a zero-emission production system, thereby accelerating efforts to achieve a decarbonized society.

    Tochigi Plant is scheduled to start production of the all-new Nissan Ariya crossover electric vehicle this fiscal year.
