Ik hoorde laatst op Nieuwsuur dat de streefdatum om energieneutraal te zijn in China pas in 2060 is, ondertussen bouwen ze veel kolencentrales bij.
Die dampkring om onze planeet is maar een heel dun schilletje vanuit de ruimte gezien volgens Andre Kuiper, daar moeten we toch een stuk voorzichtiger mee omspringen dan we nu doen met steeds meer, meer, meer !!

In recent years weakening in circulation has been reported, but assessments by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), based on the Climate Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP) model simulations suggest that a full collapse is unlikely within the 21st century. Tipping to an undesired state in the climate is, however, a growing concern with increasing greenhouse gas concentrations. Predictions based on observations rely on detecting early-warning signals, primarily an increase in variance (loss of resilience) and increased autocorrelation (critical slowing down), which have recently been reported for the AMOC. Here we provide statistical significance and data-driven estimators for the time of tipping. What are the tangible impacts of a collapse of the AMOC? “The AMOC carries huge amounts of heat northwards through the whole Atlantic Ocean, setting climate conditions for all the Earth’s continents. If it switched off, the result after a few decades would be much lower surface temperatures and stronger winds across the whole northern hemisphere (land and ocean). Heat would pool in the Southern Ocean and South Atlantic, but over the southern continents, temperatures would also decrease. Major rainfall zones would shift, leading to far less rainfall over Europe, North and Central America, north and central Africa and Asia, and more over the Amazon, Australia and southern Africa. Sea ice would extend southwards from the Arctic into the subpolar North Atlantic, and the Antarctic sea ice would extend northwards. For people and governments this would lead to dramatic change in every nation’s ability to provide enough food and water for its population. Energy supply and demand would change rapidly with new climate conditions and infrastructures would need heavy investment to adapt and cope. The patterns of vector-borne disease and health (including mental health) would be profoundly affected.
