The great nanometer chip race Semiconductors can't get much smaller. That could be good news for China CHENG TING-FANG and LAULY LI DECEMBER 13, 2023asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/The-Big-Sto...
Algemeen/overall verhaal. Voor geïnteresseerden.Nvidia: Implied upside of 128% The stock-split stock with the greatest upside potential in the new year, according to one Wall Street analyst, is semiconductor company Nvidia. Analyst Hans Mosesmann of Rosenblatt Securities has a lofty $1,100 price target on shares of Nvidia. Based on its closing price of $483.50 on Dec. 14, this represents a potential gain to shareholders of 128% in 2024. Mosesmann's optimism for the top-performing megacap stock of 2023 has to do with its role as the infrastructure backbone of the artificial intelligence (AI) movement. Nvidia's A100 and H100 graphics processing units (GPUs) account for between 80% and 90% of the share of GPUs currently deployed in high-compute data centers. With chip fabrication company Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing looking to potentially double its chip of wafer on substrate capacity over the next year, the expectation is that Nvidia's ability to meet strong demand for its A100 and H100 chips will improve. More units to sell should increase Nvidia's sales and profits next year. However, there's another side to this story. More specifically, Nvidia's doubling sales in its current fiscal year is almost exclusively the result of exceptional pricing power caused by AI-GPU scarcity. As it increases its own production, and new competitors enter the arena -- Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) and Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) -- there's a good likelihood that Nvidia's pricing power and gross margin will take a hit. AMD introduced its MI300X GPU for AI-accelerated data centers in June, but expects to ramp up production in 2024. Meanwhile, Intel intends to bring its Falcon Shores GPU to market in 2025, which will be a direct competitor to Nvidia. Things may be as good as they're going to get for Nvidia. The last thing to note about next-big-thing investments is that they have a strong tendency to form early stage bubbles. Investors have overestimated the demand or uptake of every major trend for the past three decades, and I doubt AI is going to be the exception. This makes reaching Mosesmann's $1,100 price target for Nvidia highly unlikely.finance.yahoo.com/news/3-stock-split-...

IBS: $28 Billion to Build 2nm Fab, $30,000 Per Wafer The anticipated progression to 2nm process technologies is foreseen to significantly escalate the costs associated with manufacturing leading-edge chips. Analysts from International Business Strategies project that chip costs could spike by approximately 50% when transitioning from 3nm to 2nm processors, potentially resulting in a $30,000 price per wafer for 2nm chips. This estimation is founded on the necessity for increasingly sophisticated wafer fab tools, particularly an expanded number of EUV lithography tools, to sustain a 50,000 wafer starts per month (WSPM) capacity for 2nm-class technology. abachy.com/news/ibs-28-billion-build-...
TSMC beats profit and revenue expectations in the fourth quarter TSMC Q4 profit falls 19%, beats market expectations The world’s largest contract chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company on Thursday posted better-than-expected profit and revenue on the back of weaker macroeconomic conditions. That compares with TSMC’s guidance for fourth-quarter revenue between $18.8 billion and $19.6 billion. TSMC counts Apple and Nvidia among its biggest clients. TSMC produces the most advanced processors found in Apple’s iPhones. www.cnbc.com/2024/01/18/tsmc-q4-2023-... finance.yahoo.com/news/tsmc-q4-profit...

Andere klanten volgen ongetwijfeld.

TSMC Earnings: Raising Valuation by 6% After Upbeat Guidance and Lower 2024 Capital Expenditure. We lifted our fair value estimate for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing to TWD 950 per share (USD 151 per ADR at current exchange rates) after management provided a better full-year 2024 outlook than we foresaw thanks to strong artificial intelligence-related growth and lowered 2024 capital expenditure budget. The release of AI-capable consumer devices strengthens our belief that AI is here to stay, and the high growth phase will not be over soon.

Japan Bets $67 Billion to Become a Global Chip Powerhouse Once Again Tue, February 20, 2024 at 10:00 PM GMT+1finance.yahoo.com/news/japan-bets-67-...
Battle of the chip giants The fight of the chip giants Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (short: TSMC) is an incredible success story. In recent years, the company has become the largest chip manufacturer and thus one of the most important companies for the global economy. In the last five years alone, the stock has gained almost 250%. Today, TSMC builds the most powerful semiconductor products in the world and is one of the most important suppliers for the entire hardware and software industry. Among other things, Nvidia has its AI chips, Apple its iPhone semiconductors and Tesla has its automotive processors with the most advanced 3-nanometer structure width manufactured at TSMC. But this success does not come by itself. TSMC has gained the technological advantage over many years. As early as 2009, the Taiwanese relied on the then state-of-the-art EUV systems from ASML and were thus able to pass the competition á la Intel and Samsung. Meanwhile, TSMC is a clear global market leader in the field of chip contract manufacturing with a market share of 56%, as you can see from the graphic below. No wonder in view of the strong operational development.Focus on growth Since 2015, TSMC has increased its revenue by an average of 12% and its profits by 13%. Only last year, sales declined slightly due to the weak sales of the global PC and smartphone market. However, TSMC has already overcome this operational weak phase. In January 2024, revenues increased by 8% compared to the previous year. For the current year, analysts are expecting sales growth of 25%.www.cashflow-profi.de/kampf-der-chip-...
