    Major exchanges in South Korea have made several large XRP transfers; besides, XRP address activity has surged significantly
    Major crypto tracking service Whale Alert has spread the word about a series of large XRP transactions performed by two top-tier South Korean exchanges: Bithumb and Coinone.

    Beyond that, figures shared by analytics data vendor Santiment show that XRP address activity is spiking, which is a good sign for the Ripple-affiliated cryptocurrency.

    127.3 million XRP on the move

    As per tweets published by the aforementioned blockchain tracker, over the past day, Bithumb and Coinone have performed four XRP transfers. Bithumb moved XRP lumps worth 80,000,000, 20,000,000 and 12,000,000—112 million coins in total. Coinone shifted 13,344,236 XRP.

    All four transactions were made between the internal wallets of the exchanges. Earlier, Bitfinex stated that Bithumb is part of Ripple's ODL corridor that has not been officially announced yet.
    "Buzzing XRP address activity is a good sign"

    According to analytics company Santiment, during the period between late October 2021 and now, the activity of addresses belonging to XRP market participants has been pretty high—far higher than in May of last year when the pandemic struck the crypto market and the global economy.

    In October, the number of active XRP addresses went as high as 147,000, but by Dec. 12, it went down to 95,300. Back in May 2020, there were approximately 5,000 active XRP addresses, according to the Santiment chart shared by major XRP community member XRPcryptowolf.

    He stated that increasing XRP address activity is "definitely a good sign."
    At the time of writing, XRP holds eighth place on the CoinMarketCap scale and is changing hands at $0.8272.

    De controversiële cryptomunt tether is wederom aangeklaagd voor de leugen dat elke uitgegeven crypto gedekt was door een harde dollar. Het gelijknamige bedrijf achter de munt bleek het onderpand onder meer in Chinees schuldpapier en cryptobedrijven te hebben gestopt. Een groep handelaren eist nu bij de New Yorkse rechter een schadevergoeding omdat ze met de kennis van nu nooit United States dollar tether (USDT) zouden hebben aangeschaft.

    De handelaren stellen ook dat Tether nog altijd nauwelijks openheid geeft over waar de ruim $75 mrd aan onderpand is. De driemaandelijkse update van een accountant op de Kaaimaneilanden stelt niet aan welke bedrijven Tether precies heeft geleend. De organisatie belooft al maanden een officiële accountantsverklaring door een groot kantoor.

    In een felle reactie spreekt Tether van 'nog een dwaze, nageaapte rechtszaak' van aanklagers die volgens het bedrijf alleen maar op geld uit zijn. De aanklacht zal volgens Tether 'jammerlijk falen' omdat de claims nergens op gebaseerd zouden zijn.

    Toezichthouders willen ingrijpen
    Tether is als stablecoin een essentieel ruilmiddel in de cryptohandel. Omdat niet alle cryptobedrijven toegang tot een bank hebben om valuta's te verwerken, vormen stablecoins een vervanging van de dollar. 70% tot 80% van alle cryptotransacties gaat via stablecoins en meer dan de helft van alle stablecoins in omloop is een USDT.

    Toezichthouders zijn bang dat Tether niet al zijn uitgeleende onderpand terugkrijgt. Dan kan het omvallen door bijvoorbeeld een bankrun. Dat zou een groot deel van de cryptohandel tot stilstand brengen, en als Tether snel al zijn schuldpapier verkoopt kan dit de schuldenmarkt overstromen.

    Vanwege leugens over het onderpand moest het bedrijf eerder al een boete van $41 mln betalen. Er loopt ook een onderzoek naar bankfraude, en Amerikaanse toezichthouders willen stablecoins onderwerpen aan de strenge regels voor banken.

    Fiat-backed stabelcoins zijn gekoppeld aan een fiat-munteenheid zoals de dollar of de euro.
    De organisatie achter Tether, Tether Limited, koopt voor iedere verkochte munt een dollar terug welke ze stallen op een normale bankrekening.
    Op deze manier heb je dus wel de waarde van de dollar, zonder dat je deze op een normale bankrekening hoeft te zetten.
