Announcement: Moody's: US telecom revenues cool just as demand recovery pushes European peers' earnings higher Global Credit Research - 05 Oct 2017 Madrid, October 05, 2017 -- US and European telecommunications companies are at different stages of the industry cycle, which in part accounts for the different outlooks for the regions -- stable in Europe and negative in the US, says Moody's Investors Service in a report published today. "US telcos' revenue growth will slow and free cash flow drop by 2% in 2017 as price pressures intensify with the proliferation of wireless unlimited price plans and ongoing challenges in the wireline segment. In Europe, however, telcos look set to enjoy a sustained period of growth into 2018 after several years of decline with revenues expected to climb by up to 1.5% as consumer spending strengthens and high-speed data demand grows," says Carlos Winzer, Senior Vice President at Moody's. US wireless competition has intensified as service quality approaches parity across the four national players: AT&T Inc. (Baa1, rating under review), Verizon Communications Inc. (Baa1 stable), Sprint Corporation (B2 stable) and T-Mobile USA, Inc. (TMUS, Ba3 stable). Conversely, European companies are able to increase prices based on higher value propositions. European telcos are making 'convergence' - selling TV, broadband and telephony - attractive by bundling these services at prices that continue to bring a healthy return. Market consolidation is likely in both regions. In the US, companies are pursuing consolidation or diversification to return to cash flow growth in a saturated, mature market. In Europe, consolidation between wireless, wireline and cable TV companies makes sense in the fragmented market, but will take time due to regulatory constraints and limited financial strength. In Europe, deleveraging remains a priority with some telcos breaching leverage ratio guidance for their current ratings after a prolonged downturn while others look to improve their financial flexibility. In the US, telcos have accumulated debt and leverage over the last few years from easy credit and are expected to enter a phase of prolonged contraction in cash flow and deteriorating credit metrics. Moody's expects that regulators in Europe will continue to move from concentrating on reducing prices and thwarting industry consolidation to encouraging investment in high-speed data networks. In the US, the rating agency views the regulatory environment as shifting back in favor of incumbents. Moody's report, "Telecommunications - Europe and US: Divided by an ocean and a cycle: Europe telecom revenue steady while US' to decline," is available on www.moodys.com. Moody's subscribers can access this report via the link provided at the end of this press release. The rating agency's report is an update to the markets and does not constitute a rating action.

After Hours tikt Altice US nog eens 1,4 % aan, koers aldaar $ 28,64 !!!
Disney, Altice finalise new programming agreement Reuters ReutersOctober 6, 2017Comment LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Walt Disney Co (DIS.N) and cable operator Altice USA (ATUS.N) have finalised a new multiyear programming agreement that keeps ESPN and other networks in millions of New York-area households, the companies said on Thursday. The two sides reached a preliminary deal on Sunday after contentious negotiations. Disney threatened to pull its networks from Altice's Optimum cable service, while Altice argued that Disney was seeking "outrageous" increases in fees for the rights to carry the channels. In a statement on Thursday, the companies said Optimum would continue to carry the Disney Channel, Disney Junior, WABC, Freeform, and several ESPN channels. Optimum will add ESPN's SEC Network in late 2018. In August 2019, it will start carrying the ACC Network and drop one of the other ESPN channels, the statement said. Financial terms were not disclosed, but sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Sunday that Disney had secured fee increases for ESPN, WABC and other major networks. The sources requested anonymity because the negotiations were private. Optimum has 3.1 million customers in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

Altice responds to price-hike reports, tells customers faster internet and new video tech on the way by Daniel Frankel | Oct 11, 2017 11:01am Altice USA has responded to reports that it’s raising pay TV prices for customers in its Optimum footprint, promising subscribers that a number of service improvements are on the way. “Altice USA continues to invest in our network and services to provide the best customer experience possible, from delivering faster internet speeds, preparing to introduce a new video experience, and deploying a fiber-to-the-home network that will enable even more innovative products to support our customers’ needs well into the future,” Altice spokeswoman Janet Meahan said in a statement emailed to FierceCable. “We are committed to providing our Optimum customers with high-quality video services at a great value, and the adjustments made to certain video pricing reflect the rising cost of programming, particularly fees charged by sports networks and broadcasters,” Meahan added. Altice has begun a five-year initiative to deploy fiber-to-the-home services and multi-gigabit broadband speeds across its Optimum footprint, which spans parts of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The cable company also has plans to also deploy within Optimum the video system it has already successfully launched in Europe, which it calls La Box. After signing a major program licensing renewal with Disney last week, Altice USA is reportedly raising prices of pay-TV services across tiers in its Optimum footprint. According local Connecticut news platform The Hour, the cable operator has begun informing Optimum customers in its region that the price of the “Broadcast Basic” tier will be increasing by as much as $6 a month. Surcharges are going up, too. Previously, Altice only charged new Basic customers the $4-a-month “broadcast TV” surcharge. But starting with the November billing cycle, legacy subscribers to the tier will see the surcharge on their bills, as well. Sports surcharges, meanwhile, will increase $1 to $2 a month, depending on the tier. Explaining the increases to Connecticut regulators, Altice cited the usual “escalating fees charged by sports networks and broadcasters.”www.fiercecable.com/cable/altice-resp...
Altice raising subscription fee for Optimum customers after Disney deal by Daniel Frankel | Oct 10, 2017 11:44am After signing a major program licensing renewal with Disney last week, Altice USA is reportedly raising prices of pay-TV services across tiers in its Optimum footprint. But starting with the November billing cycle, legacy subscribers to the tier will see the surcharge on their bills, as well. Sports surcharges, meanwhile, will increase $1 to $2 a month, depending on the tier. RELATED: Altice to raise cable rates 3.4% across Cablevision, Suddenlink areas in December Explaining the increases to Connecticut regulators, Altice cited the usual “escalating fees charged by sports networks and broadcasters” Altice reps didn’t immediately respond to FierceCable’s inquiries. The rate increases probably aren’t directly tied to Altice’s renewal of its Disney contract, which calls for the cable operator to carry every channel in the pricey ESPN networks portfolio. Altice also raised pay-TV fees by 3.4% across the board in October of last year. Altice faces intense pressure in its Optimum footprint, not only from Fios operators Verizon and Frontier and satellite TV companies DirecTV and Dish Network, but also from an array of well-infiltrated over-the-top services. www.fiercecable.com/cable/altice-rais...
