CNN: The world's leading cryptocurrencies Ripple /XRPedition.cnn.com/2017/12/18/africa/gal...
Yahoo: 3 Cryptocurrencies That Outperformed Ethereum in 2017 Ripple : up 10,900% With the fourth-largest market cap of all cryptocurrencies, Ripple's XRP has gained a whopping 10,900% since the year began. The interest in the XRP appears to tie in with its proprietary blockchain that's focused on financial service companies. In particular, Ripple's blockchain could allow for cross-border payments and transactions that occur instantly, rather than waiting those aforementioned days as under the current system. The news that really sent Ripple soaring in 2017 was the announcement that American Express (NYSE: AXP) and Banco Santander (NYSE: SAN) would be using Ripple's blockchain in certain cross-border transactions. The partnership will process non-card payments to U.K.-based Banco Santander accounts through Ripple's blockchain. More importantly, these transactions are expected to be instantaneous. There's also the belief that Ripple's coin, the XRP, will play a key role in expediting remittances in the future. For instance, the ability to transfer from one currency to another instantly becomes possible with the XRP as the intermediary currency. Clearly, there's a lot of excitement surrounding Ripple. finance.yahoo.com/news/3-cryptocurren...

TO THE MOON...
S.F. cryptocurrency company (Ripple) hires Facebook communications manager as price of its tokens triples "I am honored to join Ripple, and very much look forward to working with the global team to continue to build the internet of value," Channick told Business Insider. "Developing technology that let's people and businesses move money as fast as information is incredibly important, and I'm excited to help Ripple achieve that goal."www.bizjournals.com/sanfrancisco/news...
Decrypting Crypto Currencies, There’s More Opportunity Than Just Bitcoin "Now if we've many venture funds choosing 2 go this route also we’re talking billions in #XRP tht need 2 b bought. Ik bedoelde een verkoopgolf van de bitcoin waarna het geld naar Ripple zal vloeien :)ripple.com/insights/exploring-innovat... Exploring Innovation in Payment System Infrastructures Dec 19, 2017 | Team Ripple While the market has been focused on the bitcoin frenzy and commercial banks continue their migration onto enterprise-grade platforms, such as RippleNet, another revolution has quietly bubbled up around Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT). Central banks and financial market infrastructures, key stakeholders in the global payments system, have ramped up their engagement with technology providers to explore how they can leverage DLT. The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) is front and center in this space, announcing the second phase of their Project UBIN at their fintech event in November 2017. Additionally, the Australian Stock Exchange has capped off two years of experimentation to declare the adoption of DLT to replace their legacy CHESS securities clearing and settlement platform. So what’s Ripple doing to help? Ripple is leading the sea change in payments At Ripple, we’re focused on engaging with commercial banks to implement production-grade enterprise systems — using DLT — to support cross-border payments. In fact, we recently celebrated a significant milestone — we added the 100th client to RippleNet. What’s more, banks like Siam Commercial in Thailand, Standard Chartered in Singapore, Axis in India and Rakbank in the UAE are already sending and receiving payments in commercial volumes. In Japan, 61 members of the Japan Bank Consortium are in pre-production stage on a hosted Ripple platform. The Ripple xCurrent product — a solution that allows banks to settle cross-border payments with end-to-end tracking instantly — is now enterprise-tested. Also, the public XRP Ledger, operating since late 2013, successfully completed 35 million ledger updates without failure and offered throughput of 1,500 transactions per second. The Bank of England has concluded a successful project to send transactions between two RTGS systems using Ripple. Additionally, Ripple’s Regulatory Affairs team has engaged central banks across the world to assess the implications of DLT for their economies, most recently via a Central Bank Summit that attracted over 30 delegates to New York City in October 2017. Driving infrastructure innovation Ripple is now taking the next logical step to help build the Internet of Value, by establishing an Infrastructure Innovation initiative. We’ll offer our technology products and deep expertise in both payment systems and DLT to enable central banks and market infrastructures to innovate on their own digital journey. We can provide proven building blocks for both regulators and commercial banks to pilot real-world solutions in collaboration with the Ripple team. We’re excited about the possibilities for innovation — to create regional networks, to reduce the systemic costs of payments, to open up networks to new participants while managing risks tightly with more granular information and smart automation. Ripple’s Infrastructure Innovation team will be led by Dilip Rao, a veteran at Ripple since July 2014. Rao has led the business development in the APAC/MENA region and worked closely with banks as well as central banks and market infrastructures. He has over 30 years of experience working with banking technology and innovation in payments and understands Ripple’s solutions well. As our new Global Head, Infrastructure Innovation, Rao will engage with known and new stakeholders responsible for the world’s payment infrastructure, bringing a consulting mindset to explore new concepts with the backing of Ripple’s technologists. “My first priority will be piloting interoperability between payment systems, the use of DLT for domestic clearing and settlement and novel applications of xCurrent as well as our digital asset XRP,” said Rao. “I look forward to exciting new initiatives in building the Internet of Value in 2018!” Ripple invites central banks and financial market infrastructure leaders to reach out and work with Ripple on these new frontiers.
www.thepaypers.com/expert-opinion/blo... Blockchain: easing the payments burden for expats Dilip Rao, Managing Director APAC and MENA from Ripple talks about the benefits distributed ledger technology brings to the remittances industry. People are drawn to the UAE and Gulf by wages that often are far higher than those available in their home countries, and therefore the opportunity to provide their families with a higher standard of living. However, sending remittances home is expensive because of high transaction fees and poor FX rates. For unskilled workers on lower incomes, these costly money transfers eat into their wages and reduce what they’re able to send home. Fees added to money transfers to home countries are now relatively low in corridors with high volumes of payments (e.g. between the UAE and India), with a remittance payment to an Asian country typically costing 16-22 dirhams (between USD 4-6 USD). On the other hand, they can top 70 dirhams (over USD 19 USD) to countries like the UK, Europe or the US, where volumes aren’t as high. When transferring to countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Philippines, financial institutions are beginning to circumvent the conventional SWIFT messaging and batch processing used by many banks for cross-border payments. Instead, they use an Application Programming Interface (API) for messaging, which reduces associated fees and decreases settlement time by improving reliability. Using an API for a payment into India, which operates world-class domestic clearing systems, means the beneficiary of a payment can get paid quickly, often within minutes. This willingness to embrace technology is largely due to the intense competition in the remittance market in the UAE and other markets. Families at home are often reliant on remittances to meet their everyday spending needs, and customers will not stay loyal to a slow or ineffective provider. As a result, remittance providers need their flows to be as fast and effective as possible to both retain faithful customers and attract new ones. Several banks in the UAE have already started using Ripple-enabled services to do just this, working with subcontinental partners, with UAE-based Rakbank and Axis Bank in India recently coming together to send live payments. It’s unlikely to be long before exchange houses follow their lead. Using Blockchain payments technologies is a sensible move for the exchanges as they can offer much faster settlement via direct, standardized peer-to-peer connections on networks. Solutions for instant payments can include bi-directional messaging, thus improving reliability by flagging errors to both banks immediately and enabling them to rectify any problems. When built around customer needs, Blockchain networks can also enable consistent messaging standards and operational behavior, which help banks to connect to a substantial network of other banks and payment providers after plugging in just once. Another benefit of these networks is that they can support payments across both high and low volume corridors, making it easy for banks to connect with partners in a range of destinations. This need for Blockchain-driven remittance solutions isn’t just limited to the Gulf, either. From Thai citizens working in Japan to Turks working in Germany, migrant workers in every corner of the world require the fast and reliable remittance solutions that Blockchain can provide. With the global labour market becoming increasingly mobile, demand for these solutions is only going to grow – making the need for a new normal in the remittance space all the more important. I find it personally exciting to be part of an organization that is helping to facilitate instant, on-demand and low-cost remittances around the world, which can help ease the pain points migrant workers experience regularly when trying to send money home to family and friends. About Dilip Rao Dilip Rao heads up business development and operations as Managing Director, Ripple Asia-Pacific. In this role he engages with leading banks, regulators and central banks to enable innovation on the Ripple platform. Mr. Rao has over 25 years of experience in senior management with technology multinationals in Asia. About Ripple Ripple provides one frictionless experience to send money globally using the power of blockchain. By joining Ripple’s growing, global network, financial institutions can process payments anywhere instantly, reliably and cost-effectively. Banks and payment providers can use the digital asset XRP to further reduce their costs and access new markets.
