Resultaat? Ja wat wil je... Waar is communisme wel succesvol?
CHINA ANNEXES RUSSIAN LAND | Crazy News Update September 2023youtu.be/_NO3vT1y1PY?si=9sdS6JE1xEXq6... China is redefining its borders with its neighbors, including Russia On August 28, the publication of the 2023 edition of the 'National Map of China' provoked outraged reactions in India, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Taiwan. As was largely expected, ASEAN opted to play it safe when dealing with its most important trading partner, China, although some of its member states, including Indonesia, were annoyed by the recent publication of China's new map. For ASEAN leaders, such a noncommittal stand is justifiable due to their heavy dependence on the world's second-largest economy and differences in view among them. The China map was a distraction, but the ASEAN leaders managed to discuss in depth substantial issues, such as upgrading the ASEAN Secretariat to a more powerful institution, namely the ASEAN Headquarters. They also agreed to indefinitely maintain the isolation of Myanmar's military junta from all ASEAN official meetings. In the 165-point Chairman Statement, issued after the leaders concluded their biannual summit in Jakarta on Tuesday, ASEAN’s resolve on the South China Sea is formulated in points 157 and 158 of the statement. The leaders avoided making reference to the new map, released just one week before the regional leaders met with their partners, such as the United States, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea and Australia. Neither did they name China in the statement. China’s new version of the national map includes the South China Sea and its disputed borders with India, as it has done since 2006, to rectify what Beijing previously referred to as "problematic maps" that it claims misrepresent its territorial borders. The new map is seen as a show of force against the neighbors and countries whose interests were affected by Beijing's unilateral claim. Viewpoint Every Thursday Whether you're looking to broaden your horizons or stay informed on the latest developments, "Viewpoint" is the perfect source for anyone seeking to engage with the issues that matter most. The leaders pointed out in the statement that they discussed the situation in the South China Sea, during which "some ASEAN member states expressed concerns over the land reclamation, activities, serious incidents in the area, including actions that put the safety of all persons at risk, damage to the marine environment, which has eroded trust and confidence, increased tensions and may undermine peace, security and stability in the region". The leaders renewed calls for the need "to pursue peaceful resolution of disputes by the universally recognized principles of international law, including the 1982 UNCLOS [United Nations Convention on the Laws of the Sea]". Many expected the regional leaders, including President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo as the chair, to show their courage and stand against China's unilateral claim, as silence will not change anything for the better. Four ASEAN members – Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam – also claim small parts of the resource-rich South China Sea, while China claims nearly the whole high seas. The UN does not recognize China's territorial sovereignty claim. Indonesia is not a claimant, but as China includes the Natuna waters in its nine-dash line map, it is just a matter of time before the two countries will become embroiled in conflict, more than just minor skirmishes in Indonesia's exclusive economic zone. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, US Vice President Kamala Harris, Australian Prime Minister Antony Albanese and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol expressed support for ASEAN’s concern about the South China Sea, given their interest in ensuring freedom and safety of navigation in the disputed waters. In this regard, Premier Li Qiang emphasized China's importance as the largest trading partner for the regional grouping. "As long as we keep to the right path, no matter what storm may come, China-ASEAN cooperation will be as firm as ever and press ahead against all odds," Li said on Wednesday. ASEAN needs a stable and peaceful region where no country can force its will against the others. The 10-member regional grouping has therefore insisted on playing a central role in implementing its Indo-Pacific outlook. All agreed, including the US and China, that although they have their own strategic projection of the region. The multilateral forum like the East Asia Summit, which traditionally follows the ASEAN summit, is and will always be an important confidence-building mechanism for the bloc to keep all players in the Indo-Pacific, including the big powers, advancing cooperation, rather than confrontation. ASEAN’s soft approach to China, while perhaps clumsy, is part of realpolitik. It is not a matter of right or wrong choice.
Door: ABM Financial News.pers@abmfn.be Redactie: +32(0)78 486 481
Protectionisme is contra productief.

Although Li was not mentioned in official media, analysts said the rapid purges of the two ministers pointed to problems beneath the surface in Xi’s government. Then there were two more: The disappearance of the second Chinese minister sparks speculation Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu told a China-Africa security forum in Beijing last month that the world was entering a new phase of “instability.” Just over two weeks later, officials and experts outside China are raising questions about the stability of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Cabinet after Li became the second senior minister to disappear from public view with little or no explanation in less than two months. U.S. officials told the Financial Times they believed Li had been removed from office in a pattern that appeared to be similar to that of former Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang, who mysteriously disappeared in June and officially disappeared a month later was replaced. His fate is unknown. “As Shakespeare wrote in Hamlet, ‘There is something rotten in the state of Denmark,'” U.S. Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday. A week earlier, Emanuel wrote that China’s government “now resembles an Agatha Christie novel.” And then there were no more“. While senior Chinese officials are regularly fired for corruption, analysts say two cabinet ministers have not disappeared in this way in recent decades, especially not in such quick succession. Their situation – which comes just six months after Xi announced his new Cabinet as part of the inauguration of his third five-year term – reinforces the impression that decision-making comes at a moment when China is struggling to revive domestic and political dynamics , becomes even more opaque Foreign investors’ confidence in the ailing economy has increased.
In contrast to the removal of previous senior figures, Li and Qin were both selected by Xi, making it harder for the president to shift blame for their failures. “It’s very unusual. I could not have imagined that two very important ministers would disappear in such a short period of time, and without information,” said Alfred Wu, an associate professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore. Although the defense minister has little power, he is the external face of the People’s Liberation Army. Li, an aerospace engineer with little international presence, was confirmed as defense minister in March after joining the Central Military Commission, China’s top military body, last October. The fate of former Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang, who disappeared in June, is unknown © Amr Nabil/AP Li’s appointment was internationally controversial from the start. In 2018, the US imposed sanctions on him for engaging in transactions with individuals linked to the Russian defense or intelligence sectors. At the time, Li was director of an agency that planned, developed and procured weapons for the PLA. China refused to allow Li to meet with U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin while sanctions continued, complicating military ties between the two countries. U.S. officials said Li was being investigated for corruption, but one said it was unclear whether it was related to his time as head of the department responsible for weapons development and procurement. In July, the Central Military Commission, which Xi heads, announced a corruption investigation into equipment procurement dating back nearly six years. The following month, Xi fired the two top generals of the PLA’s Rocket Force, which oversees the country’s missiles and nuclear weapons. This was the biggest shake-up of military leadership in a decade. Li was not named in these investigations. While many analysts see Xi’s anti-corruption campaigns as politically motivated, a U.S. official said corruption was rife in the People’s Liberation Army and hampering the president’s ambitions to transform it into a force capable of tasks such as subjugating Taiwan. “It [corruption] has had a profound impact on what they can do and how they do it,” the official said. Officially, China has said nothing about Li’s whereabouts. The State Department said Friday it was “not familiar with the situation.” Reuters quoted Vietnamese officials on Thursday as saying that Li had canceled a meeting last week for “health reasons” – the same reason the Foreign Ministry had given at the start of Qin’s absence. “Everyone who [has been] publicly claimed [as having] “Health problems will never be healthy again in the future,” a user on Weibo, China’s Twitter-like social media service, said in one of the few uncensored posts on Li. Although Li was not mentioned in official media, analysts said the rapid purges of the two ministers pointed to problems beneath the surface in Xi’s government. Lyle Morris, a former Pentagon China official now at the Asia Society Policy Institute, said the investigation was a “big deal” that raised questions about the vetting process because Xi has a large team that vets candidates for senior government positions . He said the situation was embarrassing for Xi and reflected a weakness in the Chinese system in terms of instability, but warned it could also be a sign of the president’s power. “Perhaps Xi is meddling in a system that is extremely corrupt, and in a paradoxical way he is showing his strength with his ability to bring someone down so early in his term,” Morris said. Xi Jinping has consolidated his power by appointing loyalists to senior positions © Mark R Cristino/EPA Xi was already facing increasing policy challenges after his zero-Covid strategy sent the economy into a nosedive last year from which it struggled to recover, with growth slowing in the second quarter. “There is speculation that his top aides are not aligning with him enough, so he is probably taking advantage of that [the crackdowns] to further strengthen loyalty to his leadership. Not just from the civilian side, but also from the military side,” said Yu Ping, a China expert and former fellow at NYU’s US-Asia Law Institute. The risk would be that such blatant purges would become more regular as Xi consolidated his power – at the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) last year, he installed loyalists in top leadership positions and excluded rival factions – Wu said from the NUS. Officials compete to show loyalty and try to expose rivals’ weaknesses, he said. Guoguang Wu, a senior research fellow at Stanford University’s Center on China’s Economy and Institutions, said in a paper on tensions between Xi’s top officials that these disputes account for many of China’s contradictory policies, such as trying to attract outside investors and at the same time to take national measures security raids on foreign advisers. “Ironically, when the supreme leader controls everything, the CCP regime becomes less politically stable and more inconsistent in terms of governance,” Wu wrote in The China Leadership Monitor magazine this month. The other risk of the sudden apparent purges of ministers is that they further disempower other senior officials and make them less inclined to take bold steps to solve the country’s problems, analysts said. Foreign countries will also ask themselves whether it is worth working intensively with cabinet ministers, since they know that they lack influence. World leaders “will be left wondering whether they really need to talk.” [a given minister] or whether that person will last for a very long time,” Yu said.ustoday.news/then-there-were-two-more...

Erg transparant waren economische cijfers nooit in China.
