Dat schreef The Wall Street Journal maandag. Apple did not disclose the price but we have several sources that have confirmed to us that the deal is in the region of $400 million. Sources also tell us that Apple’s deal had been in the works for about five months and came after Shazam had been in talks with others, including Snapchat and Spotify.techcrunch.com/2017/12/11/apple-shaza...

Apple pompt 350 miljard in Amerikaanse economie Bedrijf creëert 20.000 banen. All rights reserved (END) Dow Jones Newswires
Apple gaat productie iPhone X halveren - media Vraag zou tegenvallen. We zullen zien donderdag.
Apple Sells a Record 22 Million iPhones in USA During 4Q17 January 31, 2018 |In Press Release |By Jeff Fieldhack According to the latest research from Counterpoint’s Market Pulse program, the US market sold-through 51.2m smartphones during the holiday season quarter of 2017. Apple sell-through during this period was a record 22.39 million smartphones. Apple was able to grow their sell-through market share from 37% to 44%. This is the highest ever market share for Apple in its home market. Commenting on Apple’s growth story here, Research Director Jeff Fieldhack stated, “Apple shipped a record 22 million iPhones for the first time ever in a quarter in USA and is note-able and impressive feat because the Q4 promotional season was not nearly as aggressive as previous years. In addition, upgrade rates are slightly lower year-over-year as smartphone subscribers are holding onto phones longer. Apple was able to grow their sell through 20% in a market that only grew 2% compared to last year. This means Apple has been successful to take share away from Samsung in the premium.”www.counterpointresearch.com/apple-se...
Apple Q4 performance: 12% China growth, 51% of global smartphone revenue Feb. 15, 2018 2:13 PM ET|About: Apple Inc. (AAPL)|By: Brandy Betz, SA News Editor Morgan Stanley says Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone shipments grew 12% in China in CY17 Q4 (Q/Q) while Android shipments declined 17%. In the four-week period ending January 14, the iPhone’s market share in the region dropped to 20.6% of active phones from 21.8% in the prior four weeks. The decline hit older models like the iPhone 6 likely due to domestic phone makers slashing prices to compete. But the iPhone X continued to accelerate in the period, representing over 3% of the iPhone active installed base. Global Q4: Strategy Analytics has estimates for global smartphone revenue for Q4 and Apple captured 51% of wholesale revenues with an ASP of $800, which is 3x the industry average. Samsung’s ASP grew 21% to $254 (thanks to the pricier Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8). Bron: Seeking Alpha
Apple Pay reportedly has 127M users, is supported by 2700+ banks Apple said during recent earnings calls that the number of active Apple Pay users had doubled year-on-year, with transactions more than tripling – but didn’t reveal any numbers. Loup Ventures has today published new estimates, suggesting that there are now 127M active Apple Pay users globally, up from 62M a year ago. However, says the firm, that still represents a relatively small percentage of active iPhones … The firm estimates that only 5% of US iPhones have Apple Pay activated, contrasting with 11% of international iPhones. This is likely explained by contactless and mobile payment being far more widely supported in Europe and Nordic countries. It’s also worth noting that the base here is all active iPhones, which includes older models that don’t support Apple Pay. Checking availability for the top 100 US retailers, Loup found that adoption of Apple Pay for online and app purchases was also low. It found that only 14 stores accepted Apple Pay on desktop, 24 on mobile and 24 in their apps. It did, though, note that this represented strong growth on the previous year’s numbers. The news was better where banks were concerned, with 2707 banks now supporting Apple Pay. This was up 41% year-on-year. Apple also has a clear lead on other NFC-based mobile wallets, Apple stating last year that Apple Pay accounts for almost 90% of NFC payments globally. Loup Ventures earlier estimated that 3% of US smart speaker buyers now own a HomePod, though its data there was based on a survey of just 520 consumers.9to5mac.com/2018/02/22/apple-pay-users/
Apple in talks to buy cobalt directly from miners Bloomberg quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that Apple Inc is in talks to buy long-term supplies of cobalt directly from miners for the first time, seeking to ensure it will have enough of the key battery ingredient amid industry fears of a shortage driven by the electric vehicle boom. The iPhone maker is one of the world’s largest end users of cobalt for the batteries in its gadgets, but until now it has left the business of buying the metal to the companies that make its batteries. The talks show that the tech giant is keen to ensure that cobalt supplies for its iPhone and iPad batteries are sufficient, with the rapid growth in battery demand for electric vehicles threatening to create a shortage of the raw material. About a quarter of global cobalt production is used in smartphones. Apple is seeking contracts to secure several thousand metric tons of cobalt a year for five years or longer, according to one of the people, declining to be named as the discussions are confidential. Its first discussions on cobalt deals with miners were more than a year ago, and it may end up deciding not to go ahead with any deal, another person said. An Apple spokesman declined to comment. Glencore Plc Chief Executive Officer Ivan Glasenberg late last year named Apple among several companies the miner was talking to about cobalt, without giving further details. The move means Apple will find itself in competition with carmakers and battery producers to lock up cobalt supplies. Companies from BMW AG and Volkswagen AG to Samsung SDI Co. are racing to sign multiyear cobalt contracts to ensure they have sufficient supplies of the metal to meet ambitious targets for electric vehicle production. Australian Mines Ltd., developing the Sconi mine in Queensland state, this week agreed a cobalt and nickel supply deal with SK Innovation Co., South Korea’s top oil refiner, that’s worth about AUD 5 billion (USD 3.9 billion) at current prices, the Perth-based company said Wednesday in a presentation. SK Innovation, which plans to use the raw materials at an EV battery manufacturing plant in Hungary, agreed to buy all of the project’s planned output for up to 13 years, according to the filing. BMW is also close to securing a 10-year supply deal, the carmaker’s head of procurement told German daily FAZ in early February. Cobalt is an essential ingredient in lithium-ion batteries for smartphones. While those devices use about eight grams of refined cobalt, the battery for an electric car requires over 1,000 times more. Apple has around 1.3 billion existing devices, while Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook has been bullish about the prospects for electric vehicles. Source : Bloomberg
