bp & Deep Wind Form JV for South Korean Offshore Wind Market Strategic Research Institute Published on : 23 Feb, 2023, 3:30 am bp and Deep Wind Offshore have formed a joint venture to develop offshore wind opportunities in South Korea. As part of their agreement, bp has acquired a 55% stake in Deep Wind Offshore’s early-stage offshore wind portfolio, which includes four projects across the Korean peninsula with a potential generating capacity of up to 6GW. The joint venture will see bp enter the South Korean offshore wind market through Deep Wind Offshore’s existing presence in the region. This includes a highly capable team in four offices around the country, and a strong history in South Korea since 2006 through its owner Knutsen Group, which is currently one of the biggest clients to the Korean yards in the shipbuilding segment. Today, bp has a 40-year history in the country, including sizeable oil and LNG trading activities and its Castrol lubricants business. The permitting process for the four projects is already underway having installed wind measurement devices during 2021 and 2022. bp and Deep Wind Offshore will now look to install additional wind measurement systems and secure electricity business licenses in the coming period.
Vertraging dreigt voor windmolenparken op zee door botentekort Artikel van ANP Producties • 20 minuten geleden BEIJING (ANP/BLOOMBERG) - De bouw van nieuwe windmolenparken op zee dreigt vertraging op te lopen. Dat komt door een tekort aan grote boten die de funderingen voor windturbines op de oceaanbodem kunnen installeren, meldt onderzoeksbureau BloombergNEF. Volgens de onderzoekers kan het gebrek aan schepen de ontwikkeling van offshore windparken in China vanaf 2024 vertragen en nieuwe projecten in de rest van de wereld vanaf 2027 belemmeren. Door de vertragingen staat meer dan 35 gigawatt aan elektriciteitsopwekking op het spel. Dat is genoeg om meer dan 10 miljoen huishoudens van stroom te voorzien. Offshore windenergie wordt gezien als een belangrijke vervanger van fossiele brandstoffen en moet helpen om de CO2-uitstoot te verminderen en de ergste gevolgen van de klimaatverandering te voorkomen. Doordat de windturbines steeds groter worden, zijn maar weinig van de huidige schepen in staat om de zware funderingen op te tillen die nodig zijn voor de grotere turbines. Er zijn wel genoeg schepen om de windturbines op de funderingen te installeren.
Adani Greens Operating Renewable Portfolio Reaches 8,024MW Strategic Research Institute Published on : 6 Mar, 2023, 3:30 am Adani Green Energy, the renewables arm of the Adani Group, now has its fourth wind-solar hybrid power plant fully operational at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan and the asset has been capitalized. The combined operational generation capacity of this newly added hybrid power plant is 700MW and has a Power Purchase Agreement at ? 3.24 per kwh for 25 years. The plant is housed under AGEL’s 100% subsidiary, Adani Hybrid Energy Jaisalmer Four. This new hybrid power plant consists of a combination of 600MW solar and 510 MW wind plants. The latest hybrid plant deploys advanced renewable technologies like bifacial solar PV modules and Horizontal Single-Axis Trackers systems to enable maximum electricity generation from solar energy. The plant is co-located and is designed to deliver CUF of minimum 50%, the highest CUF of any renewable project in India. The plant harnesses the potential of renewable energy by resolving intermittency of the generation and provides a more reliable solution to meet the rising power demand. With the successful operationalisation of the 700MW plant, the world’s largest wind-solar hybrid power plant, Adani Green Energy now has the largest operating renewable portfolio in India with 8,024MW.
ACWA Power to Build 1GW Wind Power & Battery Storage in Kazakhstan Strategic Research Institute Published on : 6 Mar, 2023, 3:30 am ACWA Power, a leading Saudi developer, investor, and operator of power generation, water desalination and green hydrogen plants worldwide, has announced a ground-breaking partnership agreement with the Republic of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy and Samruk-Kazyna, the sovereign wealth fund of Kazakhstan to lead and develop a 1GW wind energy and battery storage project within the Central Asian country. The project marks ACWA Power’s entry into Kazakhstan, and with an initial investment of $ 1.5B, aims to support national climate action, renewables integration, and sustainable development efforts through innovation and technology integration. It is intended to successfully decarbonise fossil fuel-based power generation following its scheduled completion in 2027. The Kazakhstan 2050 Strategy which defines the course for long-term economic development is aimed at placing the nation among the top 30 global economies by 2050. Sustainability is a key priority, and the focus is to meet 50% of its energy requirements via alternative and green energy technologies by 2050. The country is fast tracking a number of clean energy initiatives to achieve set targets.
KSEPC Selects Vestas for 600MW Wando Geumil Offshore Wind Strategic Research Institute Published on : 7 Mar, 2023, 3:30 am The offshore wind industry continues to grow in Asia Pacific and to underline Vestas’ key role in the expansion of offshore wind in the region, Vestas has announced the signing of preferred supplier agreement with Korea South-East Power Company for the 600MW Wando Geumil offshore wind project in Wando-Gun, South Jeolla Province, South Korea. If the project materialises, Vestas will supply and install 40 units of the V236-15MW turbine. Vestas will also deliver 20 years of operation and maintenance service for the wind farm when operational. Delivery of the turbines will be expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025, with commercial operation scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
Suzlon Secures Multiple Orders for Cutting-edge 3 MW Wind Turbines By Strategic Research Institute on May 29, 2023 08:00 am Suzlon Group, India's preeminent provider of renewable energy solutions, has recently achieved a series of significant victories with its cutting-edge 3 MW wind turbines. The company has successfully secured several large orders, solidifying its position as a leader in the industry. These achievements underscore Suzlon's commitment to innovation and self-reliance in the pursuit of sustainable energy solutions. One noteworthy order comes from Torrent Power Limited, with Suzlon set to develop a 300 MW wind power project in Karnataka. This project will see the installation of 100 wind turbine generators (WTGs) equipped with Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) towers, boasting a remarkable rated capacity of 3 MW each. The commissioning of this project is anticipated to take place in 2025, contributing significantly to India's renewable energy capacity. Suzlon will install 68 wind turbine generators at Serentica's 204 MW wind power project in Koppal, Karnataka. The commissioning of this project is scheduled for 2024, further solidifying Suzlon's commitment to providing reliable renewable energy solutions. Additionally, Suzlon will develop a 25.2 MW wind power project for Sri Kumaraswamy Mineral Exports Pvt. Ltd. (SKMEPL). Set in Hanumanthappa, in Karnataka's Vijayanagara district, this project will see the installation of 12 wind turbine generators, utilizing Hybrid Lattice Tubular towers. The commissioning of this project is also expected to occur in 2024. Suzlon's 3 MW turbines boast a remarkable 144-meter rotor diameter, specifically designed to maximize energy yield in low-wind sites across all Indian wind regimes. With a local content of up to 85-90%, Suzlon demonstrates its commitment to innovation and self-reliance, aligning with the company's strategic objectives. The S144 wind turbine generator, a key component of the 3 MW series, is one of India's largest and can be extended up to 3.15 MW, depending on wind conditions. With a hub height ranging from 140 meters to an impressive 160 meters, the S144 will also become India's tallest wind turbine. This groundbreaking technology promises a remarkable 40-43% increase in energy generation compared to Suzlon's previous model, the S120 2.1 MW wind turbine. By optimizing wind resources at higher altitudes, Suzlon enables the viability of low-wind sites, expanding the potential for renewable energy generation. MOL & Toyo Join Forces for Offshore Wind Power Generation By Strategic Research Institute on Jun 12, 2023 08:24 am In a momentous collaboration, Mitsui O.S.K Lines (MOL) and Toyo Construction have inked a contract on June 9 to establish a joint venture that focuses on the realm of offshore wind power generation. The decision to form this partnership emerged following an extensive study and deliberation of prospects for collaboration in the offshore wind power generation sector, as highlighted in the press release of February 21, 2022, titled "MOL and Toyo Construction Sign MoU on Collaboration in Offshore Wind Power Generation Related Work Vessel." This joint venture aims to foster robust synergies across multiple facets of offshore wind power, encompassing survey planning, work vessel procurement, and offshore construction. By melding MOL's extensive experience in ship construction, ownership, and operation with Toyo Construction's profound expertise, human resources, and technological advancements in offshore construction and wind power generation, the joint venture aspires to address the demand for work vessels in the offshore wind power generation business. Moreover, it seeks to play a vital role in the value chain as an engineering and solutions enterprise, catering to a wide spectrum of businesses connected to offshore wind power, which is poised to assume a pivotal role in the world's future renewable energy supply. The joint venture is scheduled for establishment in June 2023, with an initial paid-in capital of ¥5 million. The shareholders of the joint venture will be Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. ENERCON & KALYON Enerji Collaborate for Renewable Energy By Strategic Research Institute on Jun 14, 2023 10:43 am ENERCON, a pioneering force in onshore wind turbine technologies, and KALYON Enerji, a prominent investor in renewable energy, have forged a new partnership aimed at advancing renewable energy in Türkiye. This alliance involves the supply and installation of 64 E-138 EP3 wind turbines for KALYON's onshore projects in the country. Under the YEKA RES-3 project, initiated by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources in 2022, KALYON Energy secured a total capacity of 260 MW out of the 850 MW available across 20 different regions. In January, ENERCON and Kalen Energy, a subsidiary of KALYON, signed the first turbine supply and installation contract for the Ordu RES project, which has a capacity of 40 MW as part of the YEKA WPP-3 projects. ENERCON and KALYON Enerji have agreed to deliver and install 64 E-138 EP3 wind energy converters (WECs) for KALYON Enerji's YEKA RES-3 projects in the Elazig, Bilecik, Bayburt, Ankara, and Trabzon regions, with a total capacity of 260 MW. KALYON Enerji will develop and operate these projects according to the specifications outlined in the 'YEKA 3 Tender.' The production of the E-138 EP3 series is characterized by extensive localization, with all major components manufactured in Türkiye. Tayfun Bayraktar, Sales & After Sales Director for ENERCON's Central Asia, Middle East, and Africa (CAMEA) region, stated, "With 25 years of experience and a well-established supply chain network, we have developed the E-138 EP3 turbine as the most highly localized wind turbine in Türkiye. To date, we have installed and commissioned over 150 E-138 EP3 turbines in the country." ENERCON has already undertaken the complete turbine supply and installation for the 1,000 MW YEKA RES 2 project, playing a crucial role in Türkiye's renewable energy strategies. Arif Günyar, ENERCON Regional Head of CAMEA, emphasized, "The signing of the turbine supply agreement for YEKA RES 3 reaffirms ENERCON's reliability as a turbine supplier and its significance for the country's energy transition." He expressed gratitude to the teams from KALYON Enerji and ENERCON for their collaborative efforts during the contract negotiation phase. Ulrich Schulze Südhoff, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at ENERCON, highlighted the strategic importance of Türkiye as a market, affirming their commitment to expanding their presence in the country. He expressed enthusiasm for further supporting customers in building a renewable energy system and enhancing wind power generation, which will contribute to Türkiye's renewable energy strategy, energy transformation targets, and the development of employment opportunities and skilled human resources. Dr. Murtaza Ata, Board Member and CEO of KALYON Enerji, emphasized that Türkiye already meets 40% of its annual energy needs from renewable sources.
