    JinkoSolar & Go Solar Ink Pact for 600MW N-Type Solar Modules

    One of the largest and most innovative solar module manufacturers in the world JinkoSolar has signed a strategic distribution agreement with Go Solar Group, one of the main distributors of JinkoSolar in Australia. The agreement includes 600MW high-efficiency Tiger Neo N-type modules shipments in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

    JinkoSolar has been providing N-type panels to the Australian market for a number of years and is one of the most ardent supporters of TOPCon N-type technology. JinkoSolar shipped over 10GW Tiger Neo N-type modules in 2022, and achieved largest market share globally for N-type.

    In addition to solar modules, JinkoSolar's new Energy storage system SUNTANK is now available with Go Solar and other distributors in Australia. Consumers can benefit from the complete package of solution combining Jinko Panels and ESS together. JKS 10.24K-5HLVS is a single-phase low-voltage energy storage system that provides energy savings and peace of mind. It includes a hybrid inverter and a stackable low-voltage battery system and can be connected to the PV system and electric grid, or used as a backup power source in off-grid applications.

    TotalEnergies Signs Renewable PPA with Sasol & Air Liquide

    TotalEnergies has signed Power Purchase Agreements with Sasol South Africa and Air Liquide Large Industries South Africa for the supply of 260 MW capacity of renewable electricity over 20 years. TotalEnergies will develop a 120 MW solar plant and a 140 MW windfarm in the Northern Cape province to supply around 850 GWh of green electricity per year to the Sasol’s Secunda site, located 700 kilometers further North-East, where Air Liquide operates the biggest oxygen production site in the world.

    The two projects will provide competitive and available renewable electricity to decarbonize Sasol and Air Liquide’s production. These agreements demonstrate TotalEnergies’ positioning to contribute to the evolution of the energy mix in South Africa. The projects will have a direct impact on the local community through job creations.

    The two projects are expected to be operational in 2025. The CPPAs with Sasol and Air Liquide were signed with a consortium of TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa (70%), its partner Mulilo (17%) and a to-be-announced B-BBEE partner (13%).

    These projects are subject to regulatory approvals.

    US thin-film solar manufacturer First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) on Tuesday said it has received an order for 4 GW DC of its modules from Lightsource bp, the UK-based solar developer half owned by BP Plc (LON:BP).

    The deal involves First Solar’s Series 6 Plus and next-generation Series 7 modules, which will be delivered between 2026 and 2028 for use in the developer’s projects in the US.

    This is Lightsource bp’s second big order for First Solar modules after an up-to-4.3-GW DC contract in 2021.

    “The US solar industry is at a pivotal moment, poised to expand at an exponential rate with the Inflation Reduction Act serving as the catalyst,” said Kevin Smith, chief executive officer, Americas at Lightsource bp. He added the company is responding by growing its 20-GW development pipeline across the US and also creating demand for US-based First Solar, which, in turn, is investing in innovation and manufacturing.

    Lightsource bp also plans to use First Solar’s recycling programme to manage modules at the end of their lives. Both companies are in addition working to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

    First Solar is set to bring online a third factory in Ohio in the first half of 2023 and to commission a fourth factory in Alabama by 2025. The company expects to expand its annual US nameplate manufacturing capacity to 10.6 GW DC by 2026.

    US utility-scale solar and energy storage developer Savion LLC has placed an order with thin-film solar manufacturer First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) for 2.6 GW DC of its Series 7 modules.

    The photovoltaic (PV) equipment is planned to be delivered between 2025 and 2027, Savion said on Tuesday without giving details about the projects they will be used for.

    First Solar will produce the modules for Savion at its new sites in Ohio and Alabama.

    “As we accelerate our efforts to support America’s energy transition, we’re excited to move to an Independent Power Producer model. Our agreement with First Solar provides the certainty we need to execute our strategy,” said Nick Lincon, president of Savion, which is a unit of Anglo-Dutch energy major Royal Dutch Shell Plc.

    Under its manufacturing expansion plan, First Solar is set to bring online a third factory in Ohio in the first half of 2023 and to commission a fourth one in Alabama by 2025. The company expects to raise its annual US nameplate production capacity to 10.6 GW DC by 2026.

    Also on Tuesday, First Solar received an order for 4 GW DC of its modules from Lightsource bp, the UK-based solar developer half owned by BP Plc (LON:BP).

    Vodafone & Centrica Ink Solar PPA with Mytilineos

    Vodafone and Centrica have signed a second major Power Purchase Agreement with MYTILINEOS for the output from five solar farms under construction in England, which will output 216 gigawatt hours of green power.

    The deal gives Vodafone UK access to clean, high quality and affordable renewable electricity for the next ten years, offering price certainty and improved energy security. Already in the UK, 100% of the grid electricity Vodafone uses is from certified renewable sources. Combined with agreements already in place, this new solar PPA means around 44% of its annual energy requirement will come from UK-based renewable power sources by 2025.

    The five solar farms, located in Norfolk, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Buckinghamshire and Dorset, will generate a total of 216GWh of electricity and displace more than 53,000 tonnes of CO2e - every year1, the equivalent of taking around 31,400 cars off the road2. Construction will begin this year with energy generation expected from early 2024.

    Vodafone will purchase a significant proportion of the electricity output from the solar farms, securing their development and bringing additional renewable power provision to the UK grid. The remainder will be sold through Centrica’s Energy Marketing & Trading business.

    Toyoda Gosei has invested in EneCoat Technologies, a startup out of Kyoto University that develops thin perovskite solar cells with high power generation efficiency. The two companies will combine their knowledge of materials and production technology for the joint development perovskite solar cells leading to their commercial application. In the future, Toyoda Gosei will also look into the application of these solar cells in automotive parts, and other products under development that use electronics.

    Perovskite solar cells have greater flexibility than existing solar cells, making them easier to use on curved surfaces. They are considered promising for their potential as a means of low-cost, high-efficiency power generation. EneCoat Technologies is currently working to improve the durability of these cells and solve other technical issues that will be necessary for practical application.

    Iberdrola & Exiom to Build Solar Cells Plant in Spain

    Iberdrola and the Asturian business group Exiom have created an alliance to lead the manufacture of photovoltaic solar panels in Spain. With an investment of EUR 20 million, the first large photovoltaic module manufacturing plant in Spain and one of the first on an industrial scale in Europe will be located in Langreo in Asturias. The factory will come into operation this year.

    The initiative, which reinforces the commitment of both companies to the economic reactivation of the mining areas, will promote industrialization associated with the energy transition.

    De Belastingdienst heeft het forfait voor consumenten met zonnepanelen uitgebreid. Tot op heden gold het forfait alleen voor zonnepanelen met een opwekvermogen tot en met 10.000 wattpiek. Met onmiddellijke ingang is dit verhoogd naar een maximum van 15.000 wattpiek, zowel voor geïntegreerde als niet-geïntegreerde zonnepanelen. Dit is besloten omdat er in de praktijk op of rondom woningen ook installaties met een hoger opwekvermogen worden geïnstalleerd.

    Voor particuliere zonnepaneelhouders die geen andere omzet hebben en waarvan het opwekvermogen niet meer dan 15.000 wattpiek bedraagt, is er geen btw verschuldigd en hoeft er geen aangifte te worden gedaan. Voor alle andere particuliere zonnepaneelhouders geldt dat de btw op de zonnepanelen kan worden aangegeven middels een vooraf vastgesteld bedrag, het forfait genaamd. Het forfait is afhankelijk van het opwekvermogen van de zonnepanelen en kan worden toegepast door particulieren en ondernemers, zoals zzp’ers met zonnepanelen op of bij hun woning.

    Als een particulier zonnepanelen aanschaft met 0% btw en zijn jaaromzet 1800 euro of lager is, hoeft deze zich niet aan te melden als btw-ondernemer en geldt de registratiedrempel. Dit houdt in dat automatisch gebruik wordt gemaakt van de kleineondernemersregeling. Of het verhoogde forfait een voordelig is, hangt af van de persoonlijke situatie.

    Zon zorgt voor duurzaam jaar: Nederland wekte vorig jaar veel meer hernieuwbare energie op

    Nederland profiteert flink van het enorme aantal nieuwe zonnepanelen bij bewoners en bedrijven. De hoeveelheid zonne-energie in ons land verdubbelde in 2022 ten opzichte van het jaar ervoor, mede met dank aan een recordaantal uur dat de zon scheen. De totale hoeveelheid hernieuwbare energie steeg met 20 procent.

    Daar komt bij dat een stuk minder energie op een niet-duurzame manier werd opgewekt, blijkt uit cijfers van het CBS. Het aandeel fossiele brandstoffen daalde met 11 procent. In totaal was 40 procent van de elektriciteit die hier werd geproduceerd hernieuwbaar, dus afkomstig van onder meer de zon, wind, biomassa of waterkracht. Het gaat in totaal om 47 miljard kilowattuur.

    Hoeveel stroom opgewekt kan worden uit hernieuwbare bronnen, is sterk afhankelijk van het weer. Zo merkten ze in Duitsland dat er in 2021 minder energie kwam uit zon en wind, omdat die er simpelweg minder waren. Waar in 2020 nog 45,3 procent uit hernieuwbare bronnen kwam, daalde dat een jaar later tot 41 procent. En dan werd het lage aantal zonuren nog gecompenseerd door de aanleg van miljoenen nieuwe zonnepanelen.

    Record aantal uur zon
    In 2022 hadden Nederlandse elektriciteitsbedrijven daarover niets te klagen. De zon scheen meer dan ooit: voor het eerst meer dan 2200 uur. Het aantal zonnepanelen in ons land stijgt daarbij ook nog eens hard. In 2021 waren het er zo'n 48 miljoen, en naar verwachting van de Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland zijn daar vorig jaar zo'n 10 miljoen panelen bijgekomen. Precieze cijfers daarover worden nog berekend. Eén op de vier huishoudens heeft inmiddels eigen zonnestroom, waarmee we naar verhouding de meeste zonnepanelen van Europa hebben. Wereldwijd heeft alleen Australië er meer.

    Er werden vorig jaar in ons land ook meer windmolens neergezet, waardoor het aandeel windenergie met 17 procent steeg. De hoeveelheid stroom uit biomassa - ook gezien als hernieuwbare energie - daalde van ongeveer 10 procent in 2021 naar zo'n 9 procent vorig jaar.

    Nog een mijlpaal: er kwam net zoveel energie uit aardgas als uit hernieuwbare bronnen. Dat is voor het eerst. Met name door de hoge gasprijs en de oorlog in Oekraïne daalde het aardgasgebruik voor het maken van elektriciteit met 16 procent.

    EDF Renewables Acquires Solar Farms in Germany from MEC Energy

    EDF Renewables, a major global renewable energy player, has announced the acquisition of 17 Greenfield photovoltaic projects in Germany with a total capacity of 529MWp, from MEC Energy, a German project developer and part of the Düsseldorf-based MEC Group.

    EDF Renewables has been selected as a preferred bidder following a process launched by MEC Energy in 2022. The transaction was based on a conditional sale and purchase agreement, including development service arrangements for the 17 ground-mounted PV projects. Representing a total installed capacity of 529MWp, the pipeline contains individual project sizes of up to 99MWp situated across Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg Western Pomerania and Brandenburg with expected ready-to-build dates between 2024 and 2025.

    Located in the northern and north-eastern parts of Germany, these photovoltaic projects under development will contribute to the EDF group strategy CAP 2030 which aims at more than doubling its renewable net capacity from 28GW to 60GW between 2015 and 2030.

    DEN HAAG (ANP) - Een groep bedrijven en onderwijs- en kennisinstellingen wil binnen enkele jaren meerdere fabrieken voor zonnepanelen in Nederland bouwen. Voor dit "ambitieuze" plan vragen ze 312 miljoen euro aan overheidsinvesteringen uit het Nationaal Groeifonds, meldt het samenwerkingsverband SolarNL. De zonnepanelen van eigen bodem moeten de afhankelijkheid van China verkleinen, betogen de deelnemers.

    De groep bestaat onder andere uit onderzoeksinstituut TNO, de Hogeschool van Amsterdam en zonnepanelenproducenten als Solarge, Exasun en Energyra. Daarnaast maakt een dochteronderneming van elektrische-autofabrikant Lighthyear, die onlangs geplaagd werd door een faillissement, deel uit van het consortium.

    De samenwerkende bedrijven willen dat de fabrieken uiteindelijk circulaire zonnepanelen gaan maken. Dat betekent dat materialen en grondstoffen zo veel mogelijk hergebruikt moeten worden. Daarnaast hopen de bedrijven en organisaties dat de zonnepanelen van Nederlandse makelij toepasbaar worden op daken die nu nog niet geschikt zijn voor standaardpanelen, zoals van voertuigen.

    Afhankelijkheid verkleinen

    Door zonnepanelen in Nederland te maken, hoopt het samenwerkingsverband de afhankelijkheid van China te verkleinen. Nu komt nog 97 procent van de zonnepanelen in Nederland uit het Aziatische land. SolarNL vindt het geen goede zaak om zo afhankelijk te zijn van buitenlandse regimes voor de eigen duurzame energievoorziening. Het consortium wil dan ook dat de volledige productieketen voor zijn zonnepanelen binnen Europa blijft.

    SolarNL verwacht voor het project in totaal 898 miljoen euro nodig te hebben. Naast de investering uit het Groeifonds mikt het consortium op nog eens 181 miljoen euro aan overige publieke investeringen. Daarnaast moet 586 miljoen euro van private investeerders komen.

    Het vorige kabinet zette het Nationaal Groeifonds op om te kunnen investeren in projecten die de economie van Nederland op de lange termijn groei opleveren. In totaal gaat het om 20 miljard euro aan geld om te investeren tussen 2021 en 2025.

    De zonnecentrale Kalyon PV Karapinar in Konya, Turkije, is de grootste zonnecentrale in Europa en een van de grootste ter wereld.

    De uitbreiding van de zonne-energiecentrale
    De zonne-energiecentrale beslaat 20 miljoen vierkante meter, het equivalent van 2600 voetbalvelden, en de bouw ervan begon in 2020 op Renewable Energy Resource Area (YEKA) op Karapinar.

    De kracht
    Na voltooiing zullen de 3,5 miljoen panelen naar verwachting een gecombineerd vermogen van 1.350 MW produceren om aan de binnenlandse energiebehoefte van twee miljoen mensen te voldoen.

    Waartoe dient het?
    Het systeem, bestaande uit 75.000 zonnepanelen, zal voorzien in de behoeften van 20.000 woningen.

    Turkije's investering
    Tot 2023 zal Turkije 30 miljard dollar investeren in hernieuwbare energie, met name in zonne- en windenergie. In Turkije produceren 17 bedrijven binnenlandse zonnepanelen.

    First Solar announced that global solar leader Lightsource bp has placed an order for 4GW DC of advanced thin film solar modules. The modules, scheduled to be delivered between 2026 and 2028, are expected to power Lightsource bp projects in the United States.

    The deal includes orders for First Solar’s Series 6 Plus and next-generation Series 7 modules. Designed and developed at its R&D centers in California and Ohio, First Solar’s advanced thin film PV modules set industry benchmarks for quality, durability, reliability, design, and environmental performance.

    This latest deal follows a prior order by Lightsource bp for up to 4.3GW DC signed in 2021, and places the company on the path to becoming one of the world’s largest users of First Solar’s ultra-low carbon solar technology.

    De Nederlandse lente wordt steeds zonniger. De afgelopen tien jaar steeg de zonnestraling in de lentemaanden met bijna 5 procent. Dat stelt het KNMI in De staat van ons klimaat 2022. Schonere lucht is één verklaring.

    Vorig jaar was ‘het jaar met de meeste zonnestraling sinds het begin van de metingen in 1965’, aldus het meteorologisch instituut in De Bilt in de jaarlijkse samenvatting van het Nederlandse weer. Vooral tijdens de zomer en lente van 2022 baadde Nederland in het zonlicht, met 17 procent meer zonnestraling dan normaal.

    Sneller opgewarmd
    Verkeer en industrie zorgden vorige eeuw voor veel luchtverontreiniging, maar sindsdien is de uitstoot van stof- en roetdeeltjes sterk afgenomen. ANP / ANP

    Dat is goed voor mensen met zonnepanelen, maar heeft ook een keerzijde: Nederland warmt nóg sneller op. Sinds begin vorige eeuw is ons land 2,3 graden opgewarmd, bijna twee keer zoveel als het wereldgemiddelde. Extra zonnestraling zorgt voor meer verdamping, verdroging en een groter neerslagtekort.

    Als oorzaak voor de grotere zonnestraling noemt het KNMI een afname in de bewolking. Dat komt door het vaker voorkomen van hogedrukgebieden in de lente en zomer, en dat hangt weer samen met de uitstoot van broeikasgassen, aldus klimaatwetenschapper Peter Siegmund van het KNMI.

    Terugdringen van luchtvervuiling speelt ook een rol. Stof- en roetdeeltjes uit verkeer en industrie kaatsen zonlicht terug. Daarnaast stimuleren ze de condensvorming waaruit wolken ontstaan. Maar de luchtverontreiniging is sinds eind vorige eeuw flink aangepakt. Een studie van de Universiteit van Leipzig bevestigde vorig jaar: schonere lucht versterkt de aardse opwarming.

    Europa snelst met milieubeleid
    De Duitse meteoroloog Johannes Quaas schat dat 15 tot 50 procent van de huidige opwarming is te verklaren door schonere lucht. Europa is het continent dat het snelst opwarmt, en dat als eerste milieubeleid heeft ingezet om de luchtkwaliteit te verbeteren.

    Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) said today it has acquired its second solar project in Ireland, the 160-MW Garrenleen scheme near Carlow in the southeastern part of the country.

    The Danish clean energy group purchased the project from renewables developer Terra Solar for an undisclosed sum.

    Subject to a final investment decision, Ørsted plans to deliver the project in two phases, with 81 MW to be completed in 2025 and 79 MW in 2026. Garrenleen will be one of Ireland’s largest solar farms upon completion.

    The project supports Ørsted’s goal of reaching 17.5 GW of onshore capacity globally by 2030.

    The company noted that the Irish government’s 2030 renewable energy targets have recently been increased, with the solar goal raised to 8 GW. TJ Hunter, senior director for Onshore Ireland & UK in Ørsted, also commented: “It’s critical, however, that government targets are supported by robust investments in grid infrastructure capacity, predictable grid connection timelines, planning timelines, and market structures that can deliver.”

    Ørsted last year acquired its first solar project, the 65-MW Ballinrea development, also from Terra Solar. The Danish group already operates 360 MW of onshore wind in Ireland.

    “Ørsted is committed to multi-technology deployment, investing in a variety of renewable energy sources to ensure reliability and independence of supply,” said TJ Hunter.

    ACEN Australia, a unit of Philippine energy group ACEN Corporation (PSE:ACEN), has inaugurated the first phase of its 720-MW New England solar park in New South Wales, the company said today.

    The 400-MW stage one facility was officially opened at a ceremony attended by Chris Bowen, Australia’s Minister for Climate Change and Energy. The plant is expected to start generating at full capacity in the coming months, supplying its output to the National Electricity Market (NEM).

    The New England solar project was cleared by the New South Wales government in 2020. Construction on Stage one was initiated in the following year, involving the installation of almost one million photovoltaic (PV) panels.

    The huge solar park is located near the town of Uralla in the state’s New England Renewable Energy Zone. It is planned to be coupled with a battery energy storage facility, which will make it Australia’s largest hybrid solar-storage complex. The 720-MW site will generate 1,800 GWh of electricity once fully completed.

    New England Solar is the first utility-scale project for the Southeast Asian firm in Australia, where it has more than 1 GW of projects under construction. In January, it issued a notice to proceed with the construction of the 400-MW/520-MWp Stubbo Solar park in New South Wales.

    Avangrid Inc (NYSE:AGR), the US arm of Spanish utility Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE), will further expand its clean energy portfolio with the construction of two new solar parks in Texas and Ohio totalling 523.5 MW.

    The two schemes will add to the company’s existing fleet of 8.6 GW of installed renewable capacity, it said on Wednesday.

    Avangrid’s plan includes the True North project in Texas, which will bring 321 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity to the state’s Fall County. The scheme is currently under development and is planned to begin commercial operations by early 2025. In Ohio, power for more than 30,000 homes per year will be generated by the 202.5-MW Powell Creek solar farm, which Avangrid is already building on privately owned land in Putnam County, south of Toledo.

    According to the developer’s estimates, over USD 40 million (EUR 37.7m) in property taxes will go to Texas from the True North project, whereas Powell Creek will bring some USD 38 million in local revenues to Ohio. Around 600 jobs are expected to be created during the construction phase of both schemes.

    “With solar projects like True North and Powell Creek, we are strengthening our mission of helping the US meet its ambitious clean energy goals,” said Avangrid’s CEO Pedro Azagra.

    In addition to plants already in operation, Avangrid has an over 25-GW pipeline of solar, wind and energy storage projects under development, it noted.

    Leeward Renewable Energy, a portfolio company of OMERS Infrastructure, has closed financing for its 200-MW Horizon solar project in Frio County, Texas.

    The company said on Wednesday it has obtained USD 75 million (EUR 69.9m) in construction to term financing from MUFG Bank Ltd and a USD-105-million tax equity commitment from Wells Fargo.

    The Horizon solar park is currently under construction, with start-up expected later this year. It will provide its generation to US wireless carrier Verizon Communications Inc under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).

    The transaction represents an extension of Leeward’s previously announced financing for its Big Plain and Oak Trail solar projects, which total 296 MW and will also supply electricity to Verizon.

    Leeward currently owns and operates 2.5 GW of renewables capacity across 24 facilities located in nine states.

    Het Zwitserse bedrijf Sun-Ways heeft verwijderbare zonnepanelen ontwikkeld die tussen de spoorrails kunnen worden geplaatst. In mei dit jaar worden de eerste panelen geplaatst in West-Zwitserland.

    ‘Wat is een nog ongebruikte, maar geschikte plek voor zonnepanelen met een goed rendement?’ Dat moeten ze bij de Zwitserse start-up Sun-Ways gedacht hebben. Het antwoord? Tussen de rails. Het Zwitserse spoorwegnet is 5.317 kilometer lang. Leg dat helemaal vol met zonnepanelen, en het levert je één terawattuur (tWh) aan zonne-energie per jaar op.

    Verwijderbare zonnepanelen
    Dus ging Sun-Ways aan de slag. Een belangrijk vereiste voor de spoor-zonnepanelen is dat ze kunnen worden weggehaald en teruggeplaatst. Dat is nodig, omdat er af en toe ruimte moet worden gemaakt voor werkzaamheden. Samen met de École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) ontwikkelde het bedrijf panelen van een meter breed die geschikt zijn voor dit doel. Een speciale trein, ontwikkeld door het Zwitserse spooronderhoudsbedrijf Scheuchzer, rolt ze straks als een soort tapijt uit tussen de rails.

    Baptiste Danichert, mede-oprichter van Sun-Ways, laat ons weten dat het een zeer stevig systeem is, dat tegen een stootje van het overdenderend treinverkeer kan. “De zonnepanelen worden op zo’n manier tussen de rails bevestigd dat het bijna onmogelijk is ze te verwijderen zonder specifiek gereedschap. Alleen onderhoudsbedrijven voor het spoor kunnen dat doen.” Ook is er rekening gehouden met factoren als opspattend grind.

    Groene elektriciteit
    Als Sun-Ways de goedkeuring krijgt van het Zwitserse federale kantoor voor transport, installeert de start-up het eerste zonnepanelentraject in mei, in de buurt van treinstation Buttes in het kanton Neuchâtel. De elektriciteit die de zonnepanelen gaan opwekken, wordt niet voor de treinen gebruikt. Dat proces bleek helaas te ingewikkeld. De stroom wordt daarom via al bestaande infrastructuur in de buurt van het spoor aan het elektriciteitsnet geleverd en gebruikt om huishoudens van stroom te voorzien.

    Hoge ambities
    De ambities van Sun-Ways zijn torenhoog. Het bedrijf heeft al uitbreidingsplannen naar Duitsland, Oostenrijk en Italië. “Er is wereldwijd meer dan een miljoen kilometer aan spoorlijnen. Wij geloven dat 50 procent van de spoorwegen in de wereld met ons systeem zou kunnen worden uitgerust”, vertelde Danichert aan de website SWI Swissinfo. Nederland staat nog niet op het lijstje van de start-up, maar zou in de toekomst misschien een geschikt land zijn met ruim 7.000 kilometer aan spoor.

    Haken en ogen
    De International Union of Railways (UIC) vindt het project ‘interessant op papier’, meldde de organisatie aan SWI Swissinfo, maar ziet nog haken en ogen. De UIC is bang dat de spoor-panelen ook problemen kunnen opleveren. Er zouden microscheurtjes in kunnen ontstaan, er is mogelijk een hoger risico op brand in de groenstroken langs het spoor en het harde oppervlak van de panelen kan voor extra geluidsoverlast zorgen. Bovendien zou lichtreflectie van de panelen een serieus probleem kunnen zijn voor machinisten.

    Borstels en smeltsysteem
    Sun-Ways lijkt voor al deze problemen al over een oplossing te hebben nagedacht. De start-up stelt dat zijn panelen sterker zijn dan conventionele panelen. De zwarte kleur en het gebruik van een anti-reflectiefilter zouden het risico voor machinisten verminderen. Ronde borstels die aan het einde van treinen zijn gemonteerd, kunnen vuilresten op het oppervlak van de panelen verwijderen. Daarnaast is het bedrijf van plan een systeem te ontwikkelen dat ijs en sneeuw smelt, speciaal voor regio’s met hevige sneeuwval of lage temperaturen.

    Danichert is niet bang dat de extra energie die de spoor-panelen gaan opwekken, problemen zullen gaan geven op het net, zoals netcongestie. “Maar,” zegt hij, “het pilot-project is er natuurlijk ook om juist dit soort dingen te testen.”

    Brazilian utility company Neoenergia SA (BVMF:NEOE3) launched on Wednesday its first renewable energy hybrid complex in Brazil, combining wind and solar plants with a total capacity of about 600 MW.

    Located in the northeastern state of Paraiba, the Neoenergia Renewable Energy Complex integrates the 471.2-MW Chafariz wind park and the 149.2-MWp Neonergia Luzia solar plant connected to the same substation and transmission line.

    The total investment amounts to around BRL 3.5 billion (USD 665.94m/EUR 617.46m). The new complex is capable of producing enough clean energy to meet the demand of 1.3 million homes per year.

    The ceremony for the launch of the complex was attended by Brazil's president Lula da Silva and Ignacio Galan, chairman of Neoenergia's parent, Spanish electric utility Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE). During the event, Iberdrola committed to investing BRL 30 billion in Brazil over the next three years in electricity networks and renewable energy projects, including offshore wind and green hydrogen.
