PHARMING ANNOUNCES FIRST HALF 2003 RESULTS Reports solid progress in the clinical development of rhC1INH Leiden, August 29, 2003. Pharming Group N.V. (Euronext: PHARM; “Pharming” or “the Company”) announced today its financial results for the first half year ended June 30, 2003. The Company also reported positive progress on the clinical development of its lead product recombinant human C1 inhibitor (“rhC1INH”) and preparations to initiate multi-center Phase II/III clinical studies. In the first half, the Company’s total revenues were EUR 0.3 million compared to EUR 1.5 million in 2002, the variance arising from a one time licensing agreement completed in June 2002. The revenues of Pharming in 2003 were recognized from research and development revenues and existing government grants. During the first half year, Pharming made significant investments in the clinical development and manufacturing of rhC1INH. The Company signed a manufacturing agreement with DSM Biologics, supported the on-going Phase II clinical study, presented clinical results at international meetings in Europe and the U.S., and prepared for its multi-center phase II/III trials for rhC1INH. As a result, the total costs and expenses were EUR 6.3 million in the first half of 2003 compared to EUR 2.9 million excluding benefits from restructuring over the same period in 2002. The costs in the first half include non-cash charges of approximately EUR 1.8 million for pre-paid clinical supplies. The net result of Pharming is a loss of EUR 6.0 million for the first half of 2003, with only EUR 2.9 million net cash used for operating activities. The Company’s financial position was strengthened through the completion of key financial transactions in the first half year of 2003. The Company secured EUR 5.5 million under previously disclosed financing agreements with new and existing investors of which approximately EUR 2.5 million had been received at balance date. With committed funding from the above financing agreements and the expected exercise of options and warrants by stakeholders, the Company expects to receive around EUR 4 million additional cash in the short term. As of June 30, 2003, the total assets of the Company are EUR 12.9 million. The Company’s current liabilities are EUR 6.3 million compared to EUR 5.0 million at the end of 2002. "Pharming continues to improve its financial position and advance its lead product to market launch," said Dr. Francis Pinto, CEO of Pharming. “In the second half of this year, the Company will focus on accelerating clinical development and establishing revenue generating partnerships for rhC1INH.” Update on development of rhC1INH The initial results of rhC1INH in the Phase II clinical study are encouraging. The Company therefore plans to initiate a multi-center Phase II/III study of rhC1INH at sites in several European countries in the second half of 2003. The Phase II/III studies of rhC1INH will evaluate its efficacy and safety in the treatment of acute attacks in patients with hereditary angioedema. A so-called CTX (Clinical Trial Exemption) application submitted by the Company to initiate Phase II/III studies of rhC1INH in the United Kingdom was recently approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). This approval was based on a dossier containing data on clinical and pre-clinical studies as well as on manufacturing aspects. Granting of the CTX is an essential milestone to initiate the Phase II/III study in the UK. The Company is currently seeking approval to initiate the trial at the remaining sites in Europe. Development of the product is on schedule for a market launch in early 2005. “We are very pleased with the initial results of rhC1INH in our clinical studies and its potential for the treatment of hereditary angioedema,” said Dr. Jan Nuijens, Director of Clinical Development at Pharming. “Pharming would like to thank patients and investigators for their support and their willingness to help with the ongoing phase II trial and the upcoming Phase II/III studies.” Highlights of First Half 2003 • Clinical results of recombinant human C1 inhibitor presented at international conferences in Budapest and Baltimore • Agreement with DSM Biologics on the future manufacturing of recombinant human C1 inhibitor • Preparations underway to start phase II/III trials in second half 2003 • Financing of EUR 5.5 million from new and existing investors • Shares of the Company lifted from penalty bench status on Euronext • Company granted a listing on the Euronext NextEconomy segment • John Pieters appointed to the Board of Supervisory Directors Pharming Group N.V. is developing innovative protein therapeutics for unmet medical needs. The Company’s products include potential treatments for genetic disorders and specialty products for surgical indications. Pharming’s lead product for Hereditary Angioedema is in Phase II of clinical development. The advanced technologies of the Company include novel platforms for the production of protein therapeutics, as well as technology and processes for the purification and formulation of these products. Additional information is available on the Pharming website, www.pharming.com Accounting policies have been consistently applied by the Company and are consistent with those used in the previous year and set out in the 2002 annual report. For the period 2003 and 2004 the Company expects to report further losses as the products of the Company do not yet generate revenues. However, the Company expects to be able to finance its operations through revenues from collaborative arrangements with third parties, the proceeds of new shares issues and in the longer term from royalties and revenues from product sales. Therefore the (interim) financial statements have been prepared on a going concern basis. This press release contains forward looking statements that involve known and unknown risks, uncertainties and other factors, which may cause the actual results, performance or achievements of the Company to be materially different from the results, performance or achievements expressed or implied by these forward looking statements. Beetje vertaald...
Therefore the (interim) financial statements have been prepared on a going concern basis.
Therefore the (interim) financial statements have been prepared on a going concern basis.
