LogicaCMG Appoints Energy and Utilities Director Tuesday, 04 September 2007 LogicaCMG, a major international force in IT and business services, has announced the appointment of Sorin Toma as its Energy and Utilities Director based in Sydney. The appointment comes at a time as the utilities market gears up for new challenges in IT infrastructure resulting from industry privatisation, carbon emissions trading, renewable energy and the introduction of interval metering in Victoria and New South Wales. Toma joins LogicaCMG with more than 15 years’ experience in the energy industry during which time he has held executive positions at EDS, Deloitte Consulting and Accenture focused on the development and implementation of corporate strategies and large-scale business transformation engagements. These have included projects on works and customer management, e-business solutions development and energy trading. Colin Holgate, Chief Executive Officer, LogicaCMG, said, “We are delighted to have an executive of Sorin’s calibre and experience join us at this critical time in the energy and utility sector and look forward to his experience in providing our clients with ongoing, quality, creative and innovative solutions delivery. In recent years, LogicaCMG has built and continues to operate the world’s first online emissions trading registry in New South Wales while the company’s real-time SCADA systems monitor the drinking water for more than half the Australian population. Sorin’s breadth of experience will enable us to build on this leadership strength moving forward.” Prior to joining LogicaCMG, Toma led the Australian Energy Industry Team in EDS’ Business Business Transformation Outsourcing group. Previously, at Deloitte Consulting, he successfully completed enterprise-wide transformation engagements in the energy, telecommunications and government sectors, including large systems ERP and CRM deployment, enterprise architecture, business process redesign, change management and business and technology strategic planning. As Energy Industry Specialist at Accenture in the early ‘90’s, Toma was responsible for the delivery of management and technology consulting services including the development and implementation of strategy and technical architecture solutions, managing the procurement of hardware and software products, and overseeing the delivery of system integration, training and technical support services. Toma has a Bachelor of Science Degree (Electronics and Scientific Instrumentation) from Griffith University and a Graduate Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Computer Systems Engineering) from the University of Technology Sydney. Lombardi Deploys Teamworks® BPM at UK Healthcare Organization 09/04/2007 Lombardi®, a specialist in business process management (BPM) software, today announced that LogicaCMG is deploying its award-winning Teamworks® BPM software suite at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH), a leading healthcare organisation in the UK. LogicaCMG, in conjunction with Lombardi, is implementing a new patient tracking solution for UCLH in support of its goal of being able to attain an 18 week “referral-to-treatment” (RTT) for all patients. LogicaCMG is a strategic partner to UCLH, and manages most of its core infrastructure and health care systems. “The new patient tracking solution not only enables us to better manage our clinical pathways and resources but also helps us improve the patient experience by reducing uncertainty in the scheduling of treatments,’ said James Thomas, IT Director at University College London Hospitals. “The combination of LogicaCMG’s healthcare expertise with Lombardi’s Teamworks delivers a powerful solution to help us ensure that clinical interventions are undertaken quickly, thus reducing the RTT for our patients.” The UK government has mandated that patients start treatment within 18 weeks of referral from a General Practitioner (GP). The patient tracking solution being deployed at UCLH will enable then to identify individual patients who are in danger of breaching the 18 week target thus providing the Trust with the means to proactively direct its resources to ensure its clinical services are delivered on time. All healthcare trusts within the UK must adhere to these challenging requirements by December 2008. “The new patient tracking solution is a powerful and advanced system which will modernise the current process from GP to treatment,” said Chris George, Director of Health & Devolved Government at LogicaCMG. “The ability to access this information is an invaluable asset and will enable trusts to proactively address the Government target in advance of the December 2008 deadline. We believe this system will have significant benefits for UCLH staff and patients.” The patient tracking solution implemented with Teamworks will draw on existing information from UCLH’s wide ranging Clinical Data Repository (CDR) and other systems to provide the tracking capabilities in real, or near-real time. The solution will also provide UCLH with the information it needs to model and redesign its clinical and operational processes to eliminate bottlenecks, identify and exploit best practice and, where appropriate, consolidate common activities to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness, while improving the patient experience overall. “We are proud that UCLH and LogicaCMG have selected Teamworks to manage such a critical process as the patient tracking system,” said Rod Favaron, president and chief executive officer at Lombardi. ”Lombardi is clearly playing an important role in helping healthcare organisations transform their business processes as they adhere to stronger government regulations while simultaneously improving the quality of patient care and helping to save lives.”

Other multinational technology companies participating include IBM (News - Alert), Oracle, Nokia, RIM, LogicaCMG, Microsoft, Orange and Plexus. Innovation Centres Scotland Limited (ICS), the specialist economic development provider of innovation and technology services, is the head organizer of this big event, which will be held in Hillington Park Innovation Centre, Scotland, on September 28. LogicaCMG to present findings of eighth Manufacturing Execution Systems research report at the MESA international conference 05 September 2007 LogicaCMG today announces the publication of its eighth LogicaCMG Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) research report. The findings will be presented at the MESA International conference in Orlando, Florida from the 16th–18th September 2007. The annual study is a substantial report of around 300 pages that provides insight into the latest trends within the expanding MES market, including a significant growth in mobile solutions. Jan Snoeij, principal consultant at LogicaCMG, will present the research findings at this year’s MESA International conference as part of his “Plant Floor Visibility and MES Product Selection” interactive workshop on Sunday 16th September. LogicaCMG also has an exhibition booth at the event, where its experts will be on hand to talk through the findings of the MES research report as well as key trends in the MES marketplace. LogicaCMG is one of the world’s leading system integrators with expertise in MES solutions and has more than 600 professionals dedicated to manufacturing IT, providing a blend of business consultancy, systems integration and application management skills. LogicaCMG is an active member of MESA and Jan Snoeij is chair of the MESA International Expansion Committee and vice chair of MESA Europe. Michael Justesen, Group Director, MES, LogicaCMG, said: “Our MES product survey is now a landmark report that is eagerly anticipated by experts in the marketplace and is now in its eighth year. Last year we identified the fact that whilst production activities are well supported, there are many shortfalls in the area of asset management. “This year our survey shows that mergers, acquisitions and even some bankruptcies reduced the number of vendors and products in Europe and North America. The trend for vendors to tighten their focus persists, which is resulting in less products being positioned as ‘one size fits all’ and more niche products for sub-sectors of the marketplace. Support for mobile solutions increased by 12.5% and the delivery of additional mobile capability was higher than the forecast in last year’s survey. In summary, MES buyers now have more choice, can be more selective and more focused. Our MES Product Survey is intended to help buyers deal with the challenge of sorting through the long list of potential solutions.” LogicaCMG will also be present at MESA International’s 2007 European Plant-To-Enterprise Conference, which will be held in the Jaarbeurs Center in Utrecht, the Netherlands on 7th and 8th November, 2007. Visit www.mesa.org/conference/2007/eu for more information. You can purchase the complete 2007 MES product survey through MESA at www.mesa.org or at www.mescc.com. MESA members attending the MESA International Conference and MESA’s European Conference will receive a complimentary copy. The report will be published as a printable PDF on CD.
cours - 6 sep 07, 17:05 (overgezet van een ander draadje) LogicaCMG let down by UK sales drop LogicaCMG let down by UK sales dropAnd the Anglo-Dutch services firm still has to find a new chief executive, reports Dave Friedlos Dave Friedlos, Computing 06 Sep 2007 LogicaCMG has increased first-half sales by 36 per cent to more than £1.5bn despite disappointing losses in the UK. The Anglo-Dutch IT services company is blaming the fall in UK sales of more than eight per cent on weakness in its commercial sector and the termination of a contract with Transport for London earlier this year (Computing, 1 February). The figures illustrate a company that is too reliant on public sector business, according to Ovum analyst Ian Brown. 'LogicaCMG has taken its eye off the ball and needs to win more repeat business with its UK commercial customers, as well as winning new contracts,' he said. Overseas, it is a different story. In the Netherlands the firm achieved eight per cent growth in first-half sales and in Germany it grew by 10 per cent. LogicaCMG still has not appointed a successor to chief executive Martin Read, who resigned in May following a poor first quarter. 'The company needs to get a new chief executive in place,' said Brown. 'It also needs to focus on three or four vertical markets and a handful of solutions in each, where it has, or could have, a leadership position.' Deputy chairman David Tyler has been promoted to take on the role of chairman in the short term, after having been with the firm for only one month. And the search for a new chief executive is progressing, says the company. Improving UK performance is a priority but the outlook for the year is unchanged, said LogicaCMG chief operating officer Jim McKenna.
Sunday Telegraph Shares in IT services group LogicaCMG have been depressed ever since chief executive Martin Read stepped down in June following problems with the UK business. But the firm's half year results showed solid growth elsewhere, with France, the Nordic countries, The Netherlands and Germany all outperforming the market and delivering sales growth between 7% and 10%. The arrival of a new leader will be the key driver to the company's shares and there are promising signs that it will be looking to recruit from outside the firm. Chairman Cor Stutterheim is ceding his his post to David Tyler, formerly of GUS and Home Retail Group. And if the choice of a new recruit disappoints analysts believe there may be a chance that the company could become a takeover target. Buy at 158.25p.
Logicacmg, has been labouring under a depressed share price since chief executive Martin Read fell on his sword in June. One of the longest-serving FTSE bosses, Read resigned after a profits warning caused by problems in the UK business. But August's first-half results showed solid growth outside Britain. France, the Nordic countries, The Netherlands and Germany grew above the market, delivering sales growth ranging from 7 per cent to 10 per cent. Margins are forecast to keep growing, averaging 7.5 per cent for the year. Analysis from Dresdner Kleinwort, the investment bank, shows that Logica is valued at a 12 per cent discount to European peers on a full-year 2007 price to earnings ratio, and at a 10 per cent discount to the IT services sector on a 2008 basis. We agree with the bank's assessment that the arrival of a new leader will be a key driver for this stock. There are promising signs that, having been criticised for a lack of outside experience on its board, the company will cast its net wide. Cor Stutterheim, the chairman, like Read a company lifer, is ceding his post to David Tyler, who cut his teeth in retail at GUS and Home Retail Group. And if the choice of new recruit disappoints, analysts believe there is an outside chance that the company could become a takeover target for one of the multinational IT or consulting giants. Buy.

Schuitema Tests NFC Phones in a C1000 Grocery Store The Dutch retailer gave RFID-enabled phones to 100 customers, who use the devices to receive deposits from bottle-return machines, make charitable donations and pay for purchases. One hundred consumers who shop at the C1000 grocery store in Molenaarsgraaf, the Netherlands, have begun paying for transactions with mobile phones equipped with Near Field Communications (NFC) RFID chips. The group is participating in a six-month pilot conducted by Schuitema, the nation's second largest retail chain, which—in an effort to improve efficiency at the checkout counter—is testing RFID in one of its 450 C1000 stores. The pilot began in mid-August and will run through February 2008. This, says Rover van Mierlo, Schuitema's director of central logistics and research and development, is the first step toward gauging how the use of NFC technology in mobile phones can speed transactions at the point of sale. Van Mierlo says Schuitema intends to share the results of the pilot with Dutch banks and merchants, including C1000's competitors. In the Molenaarsgraaf store, RFID interrogators have been added to checkout terminals, a machine that accepts empty returnable bottles and kiosks used by consumers to make charitable donations. For the pilot, the store provided 100 of its customers with free NFC-enabled telephones from Samsung. Participants can use the phones to pay for purchases and carry out other financial transactions at the store. The phones have an embedded 13.56 MHz NFC RFID module and were provided by telephone services company KPN and Rabobank Group, which also supplied financial services and an interface between the store and Rabobank's accounts. A participant inserts bottles, one at a time, through a receptacle in the bottle-return machine, which counts them and totals up the deposits to be refunded. The consumer then places the NFC-enabled phone next to the machine's, interrogator, which captures the unique ID number on the phone's NFC module. Using LogicaCMG software, the phone displays the total deposit refund the customer has earned. After completing the bottle-return transaction, pilot participants can present their phones to an RFID-enabled kiosk that accepts donations directly from the bottle-return balance. If they choose to donate, proceeds go to a charity for Ukrainian children. The kiosk's interrogator captures the phone's unique RFID ID number and lets a user specify a donation amount, which it withdraws directly from the balance. The kiosk can also deposit the balance directly into the participant's Rabobank account, rather than donating it to charity. A third alternative is for a customer to finish shopping and use the balance to defray the cost of groceries. At the checkout counter, a participant can utilize the phone to pay for the entire transaction, by once more presenting the phone to the NFC interrogator at the point-of-sale terminal, then entering a personal identification number (PIN). The amount owed is subtracted from the user's Rabobank banking account. In the future, van Mierlo says he hopes to test other applications for RFID. In one scenario, the store would place RFID tags on shelves with ID numbers linked to data about products within the tags' vicinity. Consumers could then use the phones to read the shelf tags and obtain product information, such as a list of allergenic ingredients. Eventually, Van Mierlo envisions the participants using the NFC phones to read tags affixed to the shelves of items they intend to buy, allowing them to obtain a tally of purchased goods by the time they finish shopping. Two weeks after the current pilot began, the participants were sent a questionnaire asking for reactions to the technology. According to van Mierlo, the responses indicated they were happy with the system thus far. Full deployment of the technology is not likely until more NFC-enabled mobile phones are in use in the Netherlands, van Mierlo says, though he expects that to take place relatively soon. "Lots of people will need to have NFC chips in their phones," he states. "Like having a camera in the phone, in a few years I think we will see more NFC chips." Moreover, van Mierlo says, more banks and stores will need to participate. "Merchants will need to have NFC technology in their PIN pads," he notes, adding that in the interest of spreading the technology, he intends to provide Schuitema's learnings to any inquiring retailers and banks. "If you can only use this in C1000 stores, people won't be interested. It is actually not possible to roll out this with only one retailer." Laat het maar slagen zou ik zeggen!!
