Investeer in verwisselbare accu-oplossingen.

India's ambition to promote use of electric vehicles Sputnik reported that India's ambition to promote the use of electric vehicles will probably lead to another wave of investment, after the country became a top investment destination for Chinese smartphone vendors. In the past three years, Chinese smartphone brands have stepped up their investment in India, one of the fastest-growing smartphone markets in the world. Now it seems the scenario is likely to be repeated in the electric car sector. China's leading new-energy vehicle maker BYD was quoted by Reuters as saying recently that it has "a lot more confidence" to enter the Indian market, after India's most influential government think-tank earlier this month recommended policies aiming to electrify all vehicles in India by 2032. In recent years, some Chinese electric car makers have used competitive prices and successful branding strategies to expand rapidly in the domestic market, which is now one of the world's fastest-growing markets for electric vehicles. According to industry experts, China's new-energy vehicle ownership is likely to increase from 1.09 million in 2016 to 5 million in 2020. Chinese electric car makers are expected to grow in strength, technology and capital during this period, and will probably see an outbound investment boom from 2020-32 as China's domestic market starts to become saturated. Chinese electric cars have a comparative price advantage, which will be conducive for making inroads in the Indian market. Chinese smartphone brands like Oppo and Vivo seem set to beat their Western rivals in India thanks to affordable prices, and the future competition between Chinese electric car makers and their Western counterparts such as Tesla may follow a similar road map in India. The current popularity of affordable Chinese smartphones makes it possible for more Indian people to be connected to the Internet. Source : Sputnik
China makes concessions to Germany on electric car quotas Reuters reported that Germany has persuaded China to make concessions on its proposed quotas to encourage the production of electric vehicles. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Chancellor Angela Merkel said after talks in Berlin. Mr Li told a joint news conference he had discussed the issue at a dinner in Berlin and China had agreed to make concessions to automakers, without giving details. Ms Merkel said Germany and China had similar goals when it came to promoting electric vehicles, but said she wanted to make sure there were good conditions for German automakers in China, saying she was optimistic for a positive solution. Germany has been lobbying hard since China released a draft policy in September to set a target for 8 percent of automakers' sales to be battery electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles by 2018,rising to 10% in 2019 and 12% in 2020. Reuters reported in March that China could consider pushing back the 8% target to 2019 after the automotive industry criticized the scale and pace of the plans. Source : Reuters
Mr Anand Mahindra invites Mr Musk to join on India electric cars Financial Express reported that government has announced its new plans concerning air pollution. As ambitious as it may sound, the government has said that India will only have electric cars run its roads by 2030. The objective is to rid the country of alarming levels of air pollution causing about 1.2 million deaths each year. Someone from across the globe particularly has high interest in electric cars. Tesla CEO Elon Musk was quick to respond to the Indian government's all electric plan, saying that “India commits to sell only electric cars by 2030. It is already the largest market for solar power.” The one brand in the India that has been making efforts in channelizing the concept of electric cars in the country is Mahindra & Mahindra. Executive chairman of the group Mr Anand Mahindra replied to Musk's tweet, inviting him to join in on meeting the target India has promised itself. The government announcement comes as a delight to environmentalists, however who stands to lose the most in this is the oil industry. India is the world's third largest oil importer, spending a about $150 billion on the resource every year. A move to all electric would squeeze the demand for oil. However, on the bright side, the nation could save $60 billion in energy costs if the 2030 target is met. It would also reduce running costs for million in India. Automotive giants like Mahindra or if Tesla does eventually arrive in India could handle the production of electric cars, however without government support the plan will always sound far fetched, as the idea will only be feasible in a city if the infrastructure supports the electric car. While the government can back building of charging stations, the auto brands are working on developing electric powertrains that go on for longer. Source : Financial Express
China accelerates approvals for green car subsidies Published on Tue, 06 Jun 2017 Reuters reported that China on Friday approved around 300 more green energy vehicle models to receive subsidies as part of a scheme that has rapidly boosted sales in the sector, with the pace of approvals accelerating from earlier in the year. China is the world's largest market for green energy vehicles, with the government aggressively promoting the segment, including spending billions in subsidies, in a bid to fight intense urban air pollution. Regulators had put the brakes on subsidies for new energy vehicles defined as battery electric and plug-in hybrids after discovering widespread cheating of the subsidy scheme last year, instituting stricter rules for qualifying and slowing approvals at the start of 2017. That pace has since quickened with the latest 300 or so bringing total approvals for the second quarter to 1,396 models, compared to 386 receiving the green light in the first quarter, according to statements on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology website. But profits for new energy vehicle makers remain under pressure as the amount of subsidies each car is eligible to receive has decreased from last year, as the government seeks to gradually wean the industry off state support. It has also capped local subsidies that seek to match the national scheme. An executive at Chinese automaker BYD Co Ltd predicted the company's first-half profits would fall because of the decline in subsidies, despite the company's sales volume for new energy vehicles improving as the year progresses, the state-owned Securities Times reported on Friday. Nissan might launch the Leaf electric vehicle in India Car Trade reported that Nissan India mulling over introducing its famous electric car, the Leaf, in the Indian market. The company, however, plans to gauge the customer’s response in India before making any firm launch plans. Nevertheless, there’s a good chance that the new Leaf might make its way to the 2018 Auto Expo. The next generation Nissan Leaf will be unveiled to the world in September this year. This new Leaf is rumored to have a driving range of 350 to 300kms, thanks to the bigger 60 kWh battery. This new EV will also have more space as the company has paid a lot of attention to making the inside very comfortable. The electric vehicle segment in India has been slow to pick up pace. Lack of proper infrastructure and high battery costs are the two main reasons why this segment still hasn’t moved beyond the nascent stage in India. However, things are expected to change now, as the government has been pushing determinedly for cleaner and greener cars. In fact, the government is hoping that by 2030, only electric cars will be sold in the country. Tesla is another company that is keen on starting sales in India with the Model 3. However, the American manufacturer needs to source 30 per cent of its components from India before being permitted to make its debut. Source : Car Trade
Fast-growing market for electric vehicles lead to supply more cobalt Business Live reported that the race is on to supply more of the cobalt needed for batteries in the fast-growing market for electric vehicles and that means fresh competition for the big players Glencore and the Democratic Republic of Congo. A pipeline of projects is looming in places including Australia, the US and Canada after cobalt prices more than doubled in the past year. Glencore produces almost a third of the world’s supply, mainly from the Congo, which is by far the biggest source, accounting for as much as 65%. Bloomberg New Energy Finance said that among those backing new global developments are billionaire Mr Anil Agarwal and mining tycoon Mr Robert Friedland. They were aiming to capitalize as a battery boom sent demand for cobalt soaring more than 30 fold by 2030. Mr Sam Riggall CEO of Friedland backed Clean TeQ Holdings, which is developing a USD 680 million cobalt, nickel and scandium project about 350km west of Sydney said that "There’s going to have to be a response that goes beyond Congo.” He added that “Congo’s tight grip on the market is a concern for battery producers to [car] makers. "They are desperately looking for sources of supply outside of Africa." Mr Franck Schulders, Glencore’s head of cobalt marketing said in an interview the arrival of an era of battery-powered vehicles had already kick-started a period of unprecedented growth for the metal. Volkswagen and Ford were among car makers investing in electric vehicles and the whole market could be worth USD 244 billion by 2025, Goldman Sachs said in a late 2015 report. Rising cobalt demand and flat supply in the 100,000 tonnes-a-year market opened a 1,500 tonne deficit in 2016 that could triple this year, said CRU Group. There were more than 370 undeveloped discoveries and at least a dozen viable projects outside Congo that could come online by 2023, CRU senior consultant Edward Spencer said in an e-mail. Cobalt on the London Metal Exchange traded at about USD 32,000 a tonne at the end of 2016, up 36% from the previous year, and has rallied about 65% to more than USD 56,000 a tonne in 2017. That is equivalent to more than USD 25.40 a pound. They were likely to double in 2017 and could remain above USD 20 a pound until the end of the decade. Source : Business Live
