Agfa and GPMI sign distribution agreement for Agfa’s synthetic paper Synaps
The agreement completes GPMI’s portfolio of print media and is to contribute to the further global growth of SYNAPS synthetic paper.

Press releaseMortsel, BelgiumOctober 4, 2016 8:00 AM CET
Mortsel, Belgium, and Dublin, Ireland, (October 4, 2016) – Agfa Specialty Products, and Graphic and Paper Merchants Ireland (GPMI) have reached an agreement for the distribution throughout Ireland of SYNAPS, Agfa’s polyester based synthetic paper.
GPMI and Agfa’s SYNAPS: a winning team for Ireland GPMI and Agfa’s SYNAPS: a winning team for Ireland Their agreement includes SYNAPS OM for Offset and HP Indigo printing systems, SYNAPS XM designed for toner based digital printing and two pressure sensitive options, SYNAPS AP with permanent adhesive and SYNAPS AR carrying a removable adhesive that allows repositioning.
SYNAPS is available in sheet and large format reel options, designed for a wide range of end use applications. Spanning all key market sectors, commercial print, packaging, and display, SYNAPS is a truly versatile ‘synthetic paper and board’.
With its inherent qualities of stiffness, SYNAPS is waterproof and both oil and grease resistant. It also has unrivalled tear resistance, making it highly durable, it is easily wiped clean and capable of maintaining its appearance even after extensive handling and outdoor exposure.
For the printer, SYNAPS OM prints like a normal paper, with no need for any special inks, or machine adjustments. For the digital printer or office user SYNAPS XM can be used confidently on any toner based engine. Because of its construction, consistency, and unrivalled ink and toner adhesion SYNAPS can be used as a cost efficient alternative to post print lamination.
GPMI are stocking an extensive range of SYNAPS OM, XM and Self Adhesive specifications and can supply Wide Format specifications to order.
Commenting on the agreement GPMI’s managing Director Enda Brophy said: “SYNAPS is an outstanding product offering both offset printers and dry toner print users a substrate that performs on press just like paper but has the benefits of polyester for the end user.” He continues: Reprocentre have sold Agfa machines for many years and we are now delighted to be working with them on print media.”
Agfa’s global sales manager of SYNAPS Ivo Thys said: “Agfa is pleased to welcome GPMI as our distribution partner across all of Ireland. With GPMI’s highly specialised media product range, and one stop, solution focussed, service offering, we are convinced that together we will make SYNAPS a highly sought-after and successful product in this market.”
