    Adani Group, ArcelorMittal Group, and Sajjan Jindal's JSW Cement may be competing to acquire Vadraj Cement, an ABG Shipyard group company going through the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) process, according to a report by The Economic Times (ET).
    The Bombay High Court ordered the winding up of Vadraj Cement in August 2018, leading to the decision to sell the company under the IBC process. Vadraj Cement's debt resolution process was transferred to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) under the IBC after the court expressed frustration with the slow progress in selling the assets.

    UBS herhaalt advies voor Arcelor Mittal

    UBS heeft de aandelen van Arcelor Mittal vrijdag opnieuw positief beoordeeld. De analisten van UBS herhaalden het advies kopen voor de aandelen van Arcelor Mittal.

    Ook het koersdoel van 28,00 EUR werd door de analisten herhaald. Dat betekent dat de analisten verwachten dat de aandelen van Arcelor Mittal met 28% kunnen stijgen vanaf de huidige koers van 21,90 EUR. Daarmee is UBS heel wat negatiever dan de gemiddelde analist, die de koers van Arcelor Mittal met 39% ziet stijgen tot 30,49 EUR.

    Bosnia's ArcelorMittal Zenica suspends production - report

    November 17 (SeeNews) - Bosnian manufacturer of long steel products ArcelorMittal Zenica, part of Luxembourg-based steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal, has temporarily stopped production due to the unfavourable conditions prevailing on the steel market, local media reported.
    The company intends to resume operations as soon as demand recovers to a level that enables sustainable operations, news provider Indikator reported on Thursday.
    The European steel market is facing a downturn due to decreased steel consumption in the EU and the company expects this negative trend to persist, driven by ongoing economic uncertainty fueled by high inflation, according to the report.
    A SeeNews email to ArcelorMittal Zenica went unanswered by the time this article was published.
    ArcelorMittal has another unit in Bosnia, ArcelorMittal Prijedor, which operates an iron mine. ArcelorMittal holds a 51% stake in the mining company, whereas Bosnian miner RZR Ljubija holds the remaining 49% stake.

    ArcelorMittal to halt operations at Brazilian plant

    Jefferson De Paula, president of the Brazilian arm of ArcelorMittal, was quoted by the newspaper Valor Econômico as saying that the company will stop operations of its Resende plant, located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, granting collective vacations of the 400 workers of the plant.

    De Paula added that they will have technical stoppages in different units of the country, anticipating maintenance operations, as an alternative to face the reduced demand in the domestic market, in his view resulting from a surge of imported products, chiefly from China and at dumping prices.

    He mentioned that there is an imminent risk of dismissals, adding that the current scenario could affect the economic growth of the country.

    “Brazil was left unprotected in face of the world overcapacity of the steel industry,” he said, adding that the Brazilian steel industry has asked the authorities to impose a 25 percent import tariff for steel products, as a temporary relief for the situation.

    Analysts believe that the federal government is concerned with the scenario, but no announcement on the subject has been made so far.

    During the first 10 months of 2023, Brazil imported 3.105 million mt of steel products, against 1.785 million mt during the same period of 2022.

    Dalian iron ore up on recovery signs

    SINGAPORE: Dalian iron ore futures were set for a fifth consecutive weekly gain as prices on Friday recouped some of the previous session’s losses amid signs of a recovery in China steel demand.
    The most-traded January iron ore on China’s Dalian Commodity Exchange rose 0.7% to 963.5 yuan ($132.96) per metric ton by 0235 GMT, gaining 1.3% so far in the week.
    On the Singapore Exchange, the benchmark December iron ore was down 1% at $130.96 a ton. However, the contract has risen 3.2% so far in the week, heading for its fourth straight weekly gain.
    “Recent data from the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) shows that... crude steel production at major mills increased by 2.4% from late October to 1.97mt/d in early November, as some mills ramped up production this month amid improving profit margins and strengthening steel prices,” analysts from ING said in a note

    ArcelorMittal linked to Transmed cape resale
    ArcelorMittal has been named as the buyer of the recently delivered capesize bulk carrier Agis.
    Multiple brokers have linked the mining giant’s shipping unit to a $67.5m resale deal with Greece’s Transmed Maritime.
    The 182.334 dwt Namura-built ship was named on September 13 — the first of three capes built for Transmed at the Japanese shipyard.
    ArcelorMittal Shipping, which mostly went for post-panamax bulkers in the past, has picked up three capes this year, the other two being Sinokor’s 2016-built scrubber-fitted Chow and Comanche.
    In related deals, Greek owner Nicholas George Moundreas has been linked to a pair of 2011-built capes Glory and Honor with Adam Lemos-led Unisea Shipping for $49m. According to VesselsValue, each ship is worth around $26.5m.
