    Crypto market ‘dramatically underestimates’ bullishness of spot Bitcoin ETFs

    “It’s reckless not to aggressively accumulate BTC at current levels,” K33 senior analyst Velte Lund says in a new report.

    BTC exchange-traded fund (ETF) approval to drive prices up is dramatically underestimated by the crypto market, claim analysts from crypto research firm K33 — formerly Arcane Research.

    In a Sept. 5 market report, K33 senior analyst Vetle Lunde and vice president Anders Helseth said the last three months had greatly improved the chances of a spot Bitcoin ETF approval but that sentiment had not been reflected in the price of Bitcoin or other mainstay crypto assets.

    The analysts explained while Bitcoin had all but given up its gains in the wake of Grayscale’s legal victory over the Securities and Exchange Commission, an approval would “attract enormous inflows” and significantly increase buying pressure for Bitcoin.

    However, the downside of a potential spot ETF rejection would be “negligible” and Bitcoin prices would simply maintain business as usual, they wrote.

    Lunde and Helseth added that given the increased likelihood of spot ETF approvals — with several Bloomberg analysts now predicting a 75% chance of approval within the year — the market's outlook on ETFs is fundamentally incorrect.

    “I firmly believe the market is wrong. This is, by all accounts, a buyer’s market, and it’s reckless not to aggressively accumulate BTC at current levels.”
    Bolstering their bullish prediction, the analysts looked to the recent 2% gain in the tech-heavy Nasdaq-100 index, often viewed as an indicator of the broader market's risk appetite.

    ETH set to outperform BTC
    Additionally, Lunde and Helserth shared their optimism for the price of Ether, explaining that ETH appears likely to outperform Bitcoin over the next two months as it will benefit from strong momentum ahead of a futures-based ETF listing.

    They explained Ether may track a similar path to Bitcoin which gained roughly 60% in the weeks leading up to the launch of the first Bitcoin futures-based ETF on Oct. 19, 2021.

    The verdict on a futures-based Ether ETF is slated to be handed down in mid-October, which is reportedly set to get the green light from the SEC.

    Misschien leg ik niet goed uit wat ik bedoel:
    - het staat buiten kijf dat het energie-verslindend is
    - het staat buiten kijf dat er geen/ nauwelijks nuttige toepassing is
    - als ETFs worden toegestaan zal er meer toestroom van kapitaal zijn vanuit institutionele kant; het zal als een soort van "legalisering van energiemisbruik" gezien worden
    - als ETFs niet toegestaan worden, dan blijft het voornamelijk voor de korte termijn gokkers (en natuurlijk de wales die de buit eigenlijk al binnen hebben)

    Riot Showcases Demand Response Strategy: Bitcoin Mining's Role in Strengthening Texas Energy Grid

    Bitcoin mining aided the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, when the bitcoin mining company Riot Platforms reduced its power usage amid a Texas summer heatwave. Riot said in its most recent production and operations update that it received $31.7 million in power and demand response credits for August.

    Bitcoin Mining’s Win-Win: Riot Cuts Power, Boosts Texas Energy Stability
    Politicians skeptical of bitcoin, like the Massachusetts Democrat Elizabeth Warren, might want to familiarize themselves with demand response systems and how bitcoin mining can enhance the efficiency of energy grids. Simply put, demand response is a tactic used in electricity grids that encourages users to decrease or adjust their power use during peak times in response to time-based rates or other financial incentives.

    While it can be cost-efficient, only a handful of business operations can effectively implement significant demand response systems, and crypto mining might be the most optimal at shedding load. In a press release dated September 6, bitcoin mining company Riot Platforms reported it reduced its power use by 95% during peak electricity demand last month amid one of the summer’s harshest heatwaves. As a result, Riot received $31.7 million in power and demand response credits.

    “August was a landmark month for Riot in showcasing the benefits of our unique power strategy,” the CEO of Riot, Jason Les said. “Riot achieved a new monthly record for power and demand response credits, totaling $31.7 million in August, which surpassed the total amount of all credits received in 2022.”

    Riot’s CEO said that based on the average bitcoin price in August, the power and demand response credits they received were equivalent to about 1,136 BTC. He further noted that the credits substantially reduced Riot’s cost to mine bitcoin. Demand response systems have gained traction in the bitcoin mining industry. Last year, mining company Lancium collaborated with a Texas battery-storage provider. When power is curtailed, Lancium’s fleet can keep mining without diminishing its computational power.

    In February 2021, Texas experienced blackouts due to a severe winter storm, prompting bitcoin miners to reduce their power to assist ERCOT. A similar situation occurred in February 2022 when operations using demand response systems dialed back power in anticipation of winter storms. Major energy grid operators are keenly interested in bitcoin mining in conjunction with demand response systems.

    Given the unique challenges ERCOT has faced in recent years, demand response has become integral to its strategy for grid reliability. In July 2022, an analyst from Duke Energy, the second-largest U.S. energy company, mentioned that his company was exploring demand response systems and had teamed up with selected bitcoin miners for trials.

    Misschien zal het niet zoveel kosten als eerder gedacht.
    Maar als ik een windmolen neerzet om water naar zee
    te pompen is dat nog steeds verspilling.
    Zouden we met ze allen bitcoin als betaalmiddel gebruiken
    wordt dat misschien een ander verhaal.

    verdedigen dat recht heb je.
    En ik heb het recht om daar wat van te vinden.
