Nikola to Move Battery Manufacturing to Coolidge in Arizona Strategic Research Institute Published on : 23 Jan, 2023, 3:30 am Global leader in zero emission transportation and energy supply and infrastructure solutions Nikola Corporation is moving its battery manufacturing from Cypress in California to its Coolidge in Arizona manufacturing facility. The move, which the company expects to complete by early Q3, brings Nikola’s truck assembly, fuel cell power module assembly, and battery module and packs production under one roof and includes battery line automation geared toward improving quality and increasing efficiencies. The company intends to maintain manufacturing operations in Cypress through the end of Q2 2023, while it brings its production capabilities in Coolidge online and works through a detailed transition plan to prevent manufacturing disruptions. A battery engineering presence is expected to remain in California at a separate facility to focus on the development of Nikola’s next generation battery management system software and modules. Nikola completed the acquisition of Romeo Power on October 14, 2022.

Dertig van de 100 6×2 Nikola’s Tre FCEV zullen naar verwachting in 2024 aan GP Joule worden geleverd. Daarna volgt de levering van de resterende 70 voertuigen in 2025, met de mogelijkheid voor GP Joule om ze aan te schaffen via GATE – Green & Advanced Transport Ecosystem, het all-inclusive verhuurmodel voor elektrische vrachtwagens van Iveco Group. Vehicle manufacturers have been pushing to expand charging and re-fueling infrastructure to better serve rising usage of alternate-fuel vehicles by consumers and fleet owners. Nikola, whose hydrogen-powered TRE FCEV trucks are expected to hit the roads later this year, has said that it is building capacity to supply up to 300 metric tons of hydrogen per day. It also plans to have 60 hydrogen stations by 2026. Its main hydrogen production unit in Buckeye, Arizona, will finish the initial phase of production in the second half of 2024, the company said on Wednesday. Upon completion, it is expected to produce 150 metric tons per day of the fuel. The move to separate its hydrogen business comes as the company faces challenges in delivering vehicles to customers. In November, Nikola said it would miss its target of delivering at least 300 vehicles in 2022 and declined to issue fresh forecasts, citing macroeconomic uncertainty clouding its outlook. Hydrogen Strategic Research Institute Published on : 31 Jan, 2023, 4:33 am Nikola Corporation has created a new global brand HYLA to encompass the company’s energy products for producing, distributing and dispensing hydrogen to fuel its zero-emissions trucks. Nikola is the only company that is successfully integrating a revolutionary new product, the hydrogen fuel cell truck, and the full hydrogen energy infrastructure supply chain under one roof HYLA Hydrogen Stations With the intent to have 60 hydrogen stations in place by 2026, the first announced hydrogen stations will be in California in Colton, Ontario, and a location servicing the Port of Long Beach. California is a launch market for Nikola and these stations intend to support key customers to help advance the state’s efforts to decarbonize the transport sector. HYLA Flexible Mobile Fueler The HYLA flexible mobile fueler solution is an integral part of Nikola’s flexible customer service in its early years by distributing hydrogen to its FCEV customers at locations which meet their needs. The mobile fueler cools and compresses hydrogen to rapidly fill 700 bar FCEV heavy-duty trucks. Coupled with a hydrogen tube trailer with a capacity of 960 kg, the mobile fueler can refuel customer trucks back-to-back. The mobile fueler program includes its own mobile fuelers as well as a number of third party mobile fuelers, which will provide Nikola customers with a variety of flexible fueling options. The first mobile fueler has completed commissioning and testing and has been released for market operation. Nikola has additional hydrogen mobile fuelers being commissioned in Q1 2023. Under the HYLA brand, Nikola is developing access of up to 300 metric-tons per day of hydrogen. This supply is expected to be supported by the previously announced projects referenced below, which are being developed with Nikola partners. Construction of the first phase is anticipated to be completed in the second half of 2024, once final investment decisions and customary regulatory approvals are finalized. With a range of up to 500 miles, the Nikola Tre FCEV is expected to have among the longest ranges of all commercially available zero tailpipe emission Class 8 tractors while realizing weight savings when compared to battery-electric Class 8 trucks with similar range. The Tre FCEV is well-suited for a variety of applications ranging from drayage and intermodal to metro-regional truckload and less than truckload to certain specialized hauling use cases. With an estimated fueling time of less than 20 minutes at Nikola fueling stations based on expected technology improvements, transitioning from diesel to hydrogen is anticipated to be a seamless experience.

The Nikola Tre FCEVs in the European 6×2 variant will be manufactured by the joint venture between Nikola and Iveco Group at the site created in Ulm, Germany. Thirty of the initial 100 Nikola Tre FCEVs are expected to be delivered to GP JOULE within 2024. This will be followed by the delivery of the remaining 70 vehicles in 2025, with the possibility for GP JOULE to acquire them through GATE – Green & Advanced Transport Ecosystem, Iveco Group’s all-inclusive electric truck rental model. IVECO will provide the essential maintenance and service functions. GP JOULE will make the 100 Nikola trucks available to its customers in transport and logistics. Meer verlies voor Nikola Kleine omzet geboekt. (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Nikola heeft zowel in het vierde kwartaal als in heel 2022 meer verlies geleden, ondanks dat er wel wat omzet werd behaald. Dit bleek donderdagmiddag uit cijfers van de fabrikant van emissieloze vrachtwagens. In het vierde kwartaal boekte Nikola een operationeel verlies van 195 miljoen dollar en een nettoverlies van 222 miljoen dollar. Een jaar eerder was dit respectievelijk 163 en 159 miljoen dollar. Het aangepaste verlies per aandeel kwam in het vierde kwartaal uit op 0,37 dollar. Dat was beter dan de 0,43 dollar waarop analisten volgens FactSet rekenden. In heel 2022 leed Nikola 784 miljoen dollar verlies, bijna 100 miljoen dollar meer dan in 2021. De omzet kwam afgelopen jaar uit op net geen 51 miljoen dollar, waaraan het vierde kwartaal 6,6 miljoen dollar bijdroeg. In 2021 boekte Nikola nog helemaal geen omzet. Analisten rekenden volgens FactSet op meer dan 32 miljoen dollar aan omzet in de laatste drie maanden van vorig jaar. Nikola & E.ON Sign Pact with Richter for Hydrogen Fleet Strategic Research Institute Published on : 27 Feb, 2023, 3:30 am Nikola Corporation, E.ON and Richter Group have announced a Letter of Intent for an order of an initial 20 Class 8, heavy-duty Nikola Tre hydrogen electric vehicles and hydrogen needed to supply them. Richter Group is a leading provider of individual logistics services comprising hub and direct transport solutions for courier, express and parcel clients. Located in Germany, it currently owns a fleet of over 160 diesel-powered trucks with loading and unloading points in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and the United Kingdom. Nikola and E.ON intend to help Richter Group decarbonize its vehicle fleet by providing hydrogen electric trucks, the required green hydrogen, and the refuelling infrastructure through the previously announced joint venture that is expected to be established in the upcoming weeks. The initial 20 Nikola Tre hydrogen electric trucks are expected to be delivered to Richter Group in 2024. Richter Group intends to transition their entire fleet to Nikola Tre hydrogen electric trucks over the next four to five years. Richter Group also plans to work with their logistics partners to convert fleets to Nikola’s zero-emission vehicles, which could equate to an additional 750 hydrogen electric trucks within that same timeframe. The Nikola Tre hydrogen electric trucks in the European 6x2 variant will be manufactured by the joint venture between Nikola and Iveco Group at their facility in Ulm, Germany. Richter Group and its partners may purchase or lease part or all of the Nikola Tre hydrogen electric vehicles through IVECO's all-inclusive electric truck rental model. Nikola Announces HYLA BHydrogen Refueling Station in California Strategic Research Institute Published on : 2 Mar, 2023, 3:30 am Nikola Corporation?has announced its HYLA brand‘s fourth California hydrogen station location, building on its planned station network to advance and scale its long-term hydrogen distribution solutions to service market demand. Nikola’s integrated energy and zero-emissions truck portfolio will be underpinned by developing hydrogen supply and refueling infrastructure, an essential step in helping to decarbonize the heavy-duty transport sector. The latest California refueling station and logistics infrastructure location will be in the city of West Sacramento. This station will further support Nikola’s truck demand, as well as third-party heavy-duty hydrogen electric vehicles. By the end of 2026, it is anticipated that Nikola, via its HYLA brand, will have 60 stations in place to support this growth. California is a launch market for Nikola with the Class 8 Nikola Tre battery-electric vehicle, Nikola Tre hydrogen electric vehicle and the energy infrastructure underway to support key customers and advance the state’s efforts to decarbonize the transport sector. Nikola, via HYLA, is bringing comprehensive zero-emission heavy-duty trucking energy solutions to market and West Sacramento is ideal due to the number of distribution centers and density of trucking and logistics traffic. Each station within the HYLA hydrogen network will serve as an important step in the delivery of a broader array of hydrogen fueling solutions to the commercial trucking industry.
Nikola Corporation heeft haar zorgen uitgesproken over haar eigen toekomst. Dat gebeurde bij een toelichting op de jaarcijfers. Over 2021 boekte Nikola een verlies van omgerekend circa 653 miljoen euro, over 2022 was dat ruim 742 miljoen euro. Nikola investeert fors maar draait maar weinig omzet. De truckfabrikant heeft ‘gerede twijfel’ of het wel voldoende geld heeft om over 12 maanden nog te bestaan. Vanaf de oprichting van Nikola Corporation is er nu een verlies geleden van 2 miljard US dollar, liet Nikola in een toelichting op de jaarcijfers weten. Daar staan minimale inkomsten tegenover, want er zijn nog maar een handjevol BEV en FCEV vrachtwagens van Nikola verkocht. “Wij geloven dat wij elk kwartaal operationele en nettoverliezen zullen blijven lijden, ten minste tot het moment dat wij met onze vrachtwagens een significante marge beginnen te genereren, wat mogelijk niet gebeurt. Volgens onze ASC 205-40-analyse bestaat er gerede twijfel of wij over voldoende middelen zullen beschikken om aan onze verplichtingen te voldoen gedurende de komende twaalf maanden”, aldus Nikola. Wat Nikola nodig heeft is externe financiering. “Indien wij niet in staat zijn voldoende kapitaal aan te trekken wanneer dat nodig is, zullen onze activiteiten, financiële toestand en bedrijfsresultaten materieel en nadelig worden beïnvloed en zullen wij onze activiteiten en geplande bedrijfsactiviteiten aanzienlijk moeten wijzigen of beëindigen”, schrijft de fabrikant. Nikola is ook niet zeker dat haar eigen planning om nog dit jaar honderden Tre BEV en FCEV trucks te leveren voldoende is om te overleven. “Onze potentiële toekomstige winstgevendheid is afhankelijk van de succesvolle ontwikkeling en succesvolle commerciële introductie en aanvaarding van onze vrachtwagens en ons waterstofstationplatform, wat mogelijk niet gebeurt.”
