Vestas Ventures Invests in Salamander Quick Lift Crane Technology Vestas Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Vestas Wind Systems, has invested in the unique Salamander Quick Lift Crane Technology to further strengthen its position as global leader in sustainable energy solutions and to reduce carbon emissions from its value chain. This new crane holds significant potential, both in sense of being safer to work with, as well as being simpler to bring to site, assemble and work with, compared to standard cranes. Relocation within the site and decommissioning is also faster. With the investment Vestas becomes the minority investor in Swedish S&L Access Systems, a subsidiary of Stena AB. The commitment marks the second official investment from Vestas Ventures in 2021. As recently as February, Vestas Ventures made its first investment in wood-technology company Modvion. S&L Access Systems has developed the Salamander Quick Lift Crane Technology featuring a new top crane technology enabling heavy lifts on hub heights well beyond 200 metres. The moveable platforms are less wind sensitive when conducting uptower works, and the crane requires a smaller pad. The Salamander Quick Lift Crane Technology can be used for both installation and maintenance of legacy, current and future turbines. This innovative concept is based on proven technology. Reducing the number of trucks needed to bring in the installation crane by up to 75 percent as well as lowering total installation time, significant savings in CO2 emissions when compared to conventional cranes can be expected. De ene dag up de andere down.
Vestas Secures 50 MW Wind Turbine Orders in 2 Polish Projects Vestas has received two orders in Poland totalling 50 MW from the Project Joint Venture between V-Ridium Power Group and KGAL. Vestas Intends to Cease Production at Three European Factories Strategic Research Institute Published on : 29 Sep, 2021, 6:30 am To accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and improve wind energy’s competitiveness Vestas continues to develop and optimise the products and solutions we offer our customers as well as expand partnerships with specialised partners in our supply chain. The ongoing integration of our onshore and offshore business is a key part of this development, which we need to address to ensure we have an efficient operating model and manufacturing footprint. As part of this development, Vestas is today announcing steps to adjust our manufacturing footprint in Germany, Spain, and Denmark. Specifically, these changes entail that Vestas intends to cease production at its factories in Lauchhammer, Germany; Viveiro, Spain and Esbjerg, Denmark. Vestas sustains a strong footprint and continues to supply onshore and offshore wind turbine components to our customers from 12 sites across Europe, combining facilities owned by Vestas and its supply chain partners. Additionally, Vestas’ Service business plays a vital role in our European footprint, which includes more than 19 GW under service in Germany, Spain and Denmark combined. Vestas’ factory in Lauchhammer, Germany has since it scaled down activities two years ago maintained manufacturing of a limited number of blades for the V117 and V136 turbines and currently employs approximately 460 people. Vestas expects to meet future customer needs for its V117 and V136 turbines with supply from its other blade factories across the world. The expectation is to finalise production in Lauchhammer by the end of 2021, while Vestas will explore opportunities to relocate employees currently working in Lauchhammer to other Vestas sites in Germany across manufacturing and service. With more than 15 GW of installed turbines, 11 GW under service and more than 2,500 employees as of August 2021, Vestas sustains its commitment to the German market and our established supply chain. Vestas’ factory in Viveiro, Spain employs approximately 115 people who manufacture generators for the 2 MW onshore platform as well as control panels for the V164 offshore turbine for markets outside of Spain. Due to both the decrease in demand for the 2 MW platform and the need to optimise offshore manufacturing, it is no longer sustainable to continue activities in Viveiro. Based on current plans, Vestas expects to finalise production in Viveiro end of 2021 and will offer opportunities to relocate employees currently working in Viveiro to other Vestas sites in Spain. To mitigate the effects, Vestas will work hand in hand with both national and regional governments as well as with the social stakeholders. Spain remains a key market to Vestas, with more than 4.8 GW of installed turbines, 6 GW under service and more than 2,200 employees as of August 2021 including the blade factory in Daimiel, service operations and the headquarter for Vestas’ Mediterranean region. Vestas’ factory in Esbjerg, Denmark employs approximately 75 people who manufacture power conversion modules for the V164 and V174 offshore turbines. As demand for these modules will gradually shift to markets primarily outside of Europe and be delivered via more localised manufacturing facilities, Vestas expects to conclude production of power conversion modules in Esbjerg during the first half of 2022. Vestas will explore opportunities to relocate employees currently working at the factory in Esbjerg to other Vestas sites in Denmark, and Denmark remains a core part of Vestas’ global footprint with more than 5,900 employees as of August 2021.
Vestas V236-15.0 MW Prototype Turbine at Osterild in Denmark Strategic Research Institute Published on : 20 Oct, 2021, 6:30 am Vestas has decided to install the V236-15 MW offshore prototype wind turbine at the Østerild National test centre for large wind turbines in Western Jutland, Denmark. The installation of the prototype turbine will take place in the second half of 2022 and its first kWh is planned for the fourth quarter of that year. Stretching 280m into the air with a production output of 80 GWh/year, the prototype will be the tallest and most powerful wind turbine in the world once installed. The prototype development work has already progressed across Vestas’ R&D and production sites in Denmark. The blade moulds have been developed at Vestas’ blade factory in Lem and the 115.5m long prototype blades will begin manufacturing later this year at Vestas’ offshore blade factory in Nakskov. The nacelle will be developed and assembled at the offshore nacelle factory in Lindø port of Odense. All large components will be preassembled and transported to Østerild, where installation will take place. The prototype will be installed onshore to facilitate easy access for testing prior to installation, and the main prototype components will already have undergone thorough testing and verification at Vestas’ and our partners’ test facilities. During the initial period of operations, Vestas will collect data needed to obtain a Type Certificate, which is a key step in reaching serial production of the turbine in 2024. With a swept area exceeding 43,000 m2, the V236-15.0 MW delivers industry-leading performance and moves the boundaries of wind energy production to around 80 GWh/year, enough to power around 20,000 European households and displace more than 38,000 tonnes of CO2, which is the equivalent to removing 25,000 passenger cars from the road every year. The V235-15.0 MW is designed to deliver excellent performance while reducing the number of turbines at park level, strengthening the project business case. The globally applicable offshore turbine offers 65 percent higher annual energy production than the V174-9.5 MW, and for a 900 MW wind park it increases production by five percent with 34 fewer turbines. It offers excellent partial-load production, resulting in a more stable energy production, and a capacity factor over 60 percent depending on site-specific conditions. Launched in February 2021, Vestas secured its first pre-selected tenderer status for the V236-15.0 MW turbine in July 2021 for the 900 MW He Dreiht project in Germany.

Vestas – Interim Financial Report, Third Quarter 2021 Vestas Wind Systems A/S, Aarhus, 3 November 2021 Company announcement no. 18/2021 Summary: Revenue increased compared to third quarter 2020, while EBIT decreased as a consequence of supply chain challenges. Combined order backlog of more than EUR 47bn. Full-year guidance updated. In the third quarter of 2021, Vestas generated revenue of EUR 5,538m – an increase of 16 percent compared to the year-earlier period. EBIT before special items decreased by EUR 87m to EUR 325m. This resulted in an EBIT margin before special items of 5.9 percent, compared to 8.6 percent in the third quarter of 2020. Free cash flow* amounted to EUR 300m compared to EUR 547m in the third quarter of 2020. The quarterly intake of firm and unconditional wind turbine orders amounted to 3,727 MW. The value of the wind turbine order backlog was EUR 19.3bn as at 30 September 2021. In addition to the wind turbine order backlog, at the end of September 2021, Vestas had service agreements with expected contractual future revenue of EUR 28.0bn. Thus, the value of the combined backlog of wind turbine orders and service agreements stood at EUR 47.3bn – an increase of EUR 13.4bn compared to the year-earlier period. The supply chain instability and cost inflation caused by the pandemic is continuing to impact the wind power industry. Based on these circumstances, and the impact these are expected to have for the remainder of the year, Vestas is updating its full-year guidance on EBIT margin before special items, which is now expected to be around 4 percent (previously 5-7 percent). Vestas still expects revenue of EUR 15.5-16.5bn, including Service, and total investments* below EUR 1,000m in 2021. Group President & CEO Henrik Andersen said: “During the third quarter of 2021, everyone at Vestas did an outstanding job to ensure record-high revenue and activity levels in spite of an increasingly challenging global business environment for renewables. The quarter was thus characterised by supply chain instability and rising energy prices as well as accelerated cost inflation from raw materials, transport, and turbine components, which severely impacted profitability and limits visibility. In this environment, and with additional warranty provisions of EUR 50m to cover the execution of previously announced blade repairs and upgrades, we achieved revenue of EUR 5.5bn, order intake of 3.7 GW, 23 percent growth in Service, an EBIT margin of 5.9 percent, and the largest preferred supplier agreement in our history for a 2.1 GW offshore project in the USA. Based on how 2021 has evolved and how we expect to finish the year, we are adjusting our EBIT margin guidance to around 4 percent with revenue expectations unchanged. With supply chain instability and high component, material and transport costs expected to last throughout 2022 as well as the growing climate and energy crises making our solutions ever more important, our full focus is to mitigate impact from external factors to protect profitability and execute on our strategy without compromising on safety or quality.” Key highlights Organisational update Marika Fredriksson to step down as CFO effective 1 March 2022; Hans Martin Smith, CFO of Vestas Northern & Central Europe, to succeed. Vestas’ largest preferred supplier agreement to date secured Vestas as preferred supplier for the 2.1 GW Empire Wind project in the USA; onshore order intake of 3.7 GW. Revenue of EUR 5.5bn Highest ever quarterly revenue secured despite continued supply chain challenges. EBIT margin of 5.9 percent EBIT impacted by further cost inflation and higher level of warranty provisions. Circularity roadmap launched, raising the bar New targets introduced to achieve full circularity by 2040, and targets to increase rotor recyclability accelerated. Outlook for full year updated Guidance on EBIT margin updated to reflect accelerated cost inflation and supply chain challenges. * Excl. acquisitions of subsidiaries, joint ventures, associates, and financial investments.
Empire Wind Selects Vestas as Turbine Supplier Strategic Research Institute Published on : 05 Nov, 2021, 5:31 am Empire Offshore Wind, a joint venture between Equinor and bp, has selected Vestas as its preferred supplier for wind turbine generators for both Empire Wind I and Empire Wind II, one of the largest offshore wind projects in the US. The deal would see Vestas deliver 138 V236-15MW wind turbine generators with a total generating capacity of around 2GW - for the two Empire Wind developments. Each rotation of a 15MW turbine will be capable of powering a New York home for about 1.5 days. The turbine supply and service and warranty contract awards are conditional upon final agreement on the contract conditions and signing of the Empire Wind II purchase and sales agreement between Empire Offshore Wind LLC and NYSERDA. As part of Equinor and bp’s commitment to create local capabilities in the offshore wind supply chain, Empire Wind and Vestas are maturing further opportunities for local jobs and economic activity in New York state.
AP Moller Maersk & Vestas Ink Pact for Containerised Transport Strategic Research Institute Published on : 15 Nov, 2021, 5:30 am To serve the growing global market for sustainable energy solutions and protect profitability in an increasingly challenging global business environment for renewables, Vestas continuously looks for partners that can help mitigate negative impact from the current supply chain challenges and scale the business efficiently in the long-term. As part of manoeuvring successfully in a challenging environment, Vestas and Maersk have formed a long-term strategic partnership for all containerised transport. The partnership includes door-to-door transport from the company´s suppliers to their factories and service warehouses as well as containerised site parts and transport equipment. In addition, the partnership also includes all airfreight shipments. The partnership does not include non-containerised road transport and outbound transport, which will continue to be managed by DSV and other partners. By partnering with Maersk, the world’s largest asset owner within shipping and containers, Vestas gets direct access to container capacity at a fixed price. This would otherwise be hard to secure in the current environment and thus, it will help ensure business continuity and cost predictability. The partnership also entails a fantastic opportunity to co-develop a joint sustainability journey, where the two leading companies can join forces to decarbonise logistics. The partnership is effective per 1. January 2022.
Vestas Impacted by Cyber Security Incident Strategic Research Institute Published on : 30 Nov, 2021, 5:30 am Vestas discovered a cyber security incident during 19 November 2021 and has since then together with external partners worked around the clock to contain the situation and re-establish the integrity of its IT systems. The company’s preliminary findings indicate that the incident has impacted parts of Vestas’ internal IT infrastructure and that data has been compromised. At this stage, the work and investigation are still ongoing. However, there is no indication that the incident has impacted third party operations, including customer and supply chain operations. Vestas’ manufacturing, construction and service teams have been able to continue operations, although several operational IT systems have been shut down as a precaution. Vestas has already initiated a gradual and controlled reopening of all IT systems.
