Galapagos 2015: de inhoudelijke discussie

Degroof Petercam Galapagos (Buy) - Strong cash position and extended AbbVie collaboration for CF-portfolio (EUR 39.70 / TP EUR 63) Facts – Strong cash position (EUR 988m) Galapagos (GLGP) reported its 1Q16 financial results. Revenues came in lower than expected at EUR 14.8m versus our anticipated EUR 24.1m (Css EUR 28.7m). This is however explained by amendments made to the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) collaboration with AbbVie (see below). A USD 10m milestone payment triggered in 1Q16 with the start of the Phase I study with GLPG2222 was not yet recognised as the new contract was not signed yet. Operating expenses decreased 11% YoY, landing at EUR 32.2m (R&D EUR 27.8m; G&A and S&M EUR 4.4m). This leads to an operating loss of EUR 17.4m. Due to a one-time fair value re-measurement of the share subscription agreement with Gilead, a positive impact of EUR 57.5m, the company had a net profit of EUR 35.9m. Cash & cash equivalents were ahead of our expectations, coming in at EUR 987.6m (BDPe EUR 972m; Css EUR 956m), this strong cash position reflects the closing of the filgotinib transaction with Gilead. In a separate press release the company reported that it has extended the cystic fibrosis collaboration with AbbVie. To reflect the expanding portfolio of new leads being researched, and thus higher R&D-costs, potential milestones have increased from USD 350m to USD 600m. Royalties (ranging from mid-teens to 20%) and other deal terms remained the same On the outlook for FY16 management retains its guidance for operational cash burn: EUR 100 - 120m Galapagos will host a conference call today at 14:00 CET: +32(0)2 620 0138 CODE: 6420003. Our view – Extension AbbVie collaboration to reflect importance of CF-portfolio Excluding the delay in the revenue recognition of the AbbVie milestone (USD 10m) no surprises are noted in the financials. The company has a more than comfortable cash position of EUR 988m, but the question remains how the company will set this to use. More notable news is the extension of the AbbVie collaboration on CF. It was well known that the current scope of the project exceeded the originally negotiated terms. As the company has now multiple compounds (and back-ups) to develop a triple combo therapy. The extended scope also leads to costs for GLGP to increase further than originally expected. This new agreement significantly upped potential milestone payments (from USD 350m to USD 600m) and also underlines the commitment of AbbVie with this collaboration, something investors doubted post the opt-out of filgotinib last year. Beyond mgmt. stating that in 1Q16 they focused on “transitioning the filgotinib programs over to Gilead as they prepared for the discussions with regulatory authorities and the roll-out of Phase 3 programs in rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn’s disease” no update was provided on the next steps for this program. This is a small disappointment. In its conference call on the 1Q16 results (28/04/16) Gilead did highlight that it anticipates to start the Phase III trials with filgotinib in 3Q16 (RA & Crohn), this seems to indicate that the post-Phase II meeting with the FDA was positive. Conclusion – Buy confirmed (TP EUR 63) The company is executing its development plan, with the strong cash position (EUR 988m) and attractive valuation we see little reason to change our stance. We stick to our Buy recommendation and EUR 63 TP.
Galapagos - Q1 roughly in line, newsflow on the horizon By Kempen & Co Research - mark.pospisilik@kempen.com GLPG NA - Close: €39.70 (-0.80%) - BUY, PT: €80.00 Kempen & Co Galapagos has reported Q1'16 results that are roughly in-line after taking into account timing effects of AbbVie milestone recognition and the impact of financial asset accounting related to the Gilead upfront. In addition, and in line with expectations, Galapagos has announced the expansion of its CF collaboration with AbbVie to encompass triple combination therapy, resulting in a near doubling of potential milestones ($350m to $600m). With a cash position that remains close to €1bn, Galapagos is still one of the cheapest stocks in our universe on a cash/market cap basis (2016 operational cash burn guidance is maintained at €100m-€120m). And with a wealth of newsflow expected in 2016 Galapagos continues to feature on our Favourites List. Galapagos reported Q1'16 total group revenues of €14.8m (vs our est €22.0m, cons. €28.7m, Q1’15 was €20.0m). The y-o-y decrease and difference with estimates are primarily due to recognition of the $10m milestone from AbbVie for the start of the phase l trial of GLPG2222 (announced in January) not being counted as revenue in Q1 as the contract amendment with AbbVie had not yet been signed. The cash has been received and now that the AbbVie deal has been amended, the revenues can be booked. R&D spending fell to €27.8m (vs our est €31.0m, Q1’15 was €31.6m) due to decreased spending on the Filgotinib clinical trials before phase lll gets underway later this year. SG&A increased to €4.4m (vs. our est €5.0m, Q1’15 was €3.8m) primarily due to increased costs associated with warrant plans. As a result of lower revenues and higher expenses (personnel expenses also increased slightly) the operating loss increased to €17.4m (vs our est €14.0m, Q1’15 was €15.3m). The company reported a net profit of €35.9m for the quarter as a result of the positive €57.5m impact of non-cash financial asset accounting for the Gilead equity investment. The increase in the share price between January 1 and 19, 2016, resulted in a positive non-cash adjustment of €57.5m in Q1’16 (in contrast, the increase in the Galapagos share price between signing of the Gilead deal and 31 December 2015 resulted in a negative, non-cash fair value adjustment of €30.6 million in the FY’15 results). Galapagos reported a Q1'16 cash position of €987.6 (vs our est €1.01bn, YE’15 was €198.3m, and the company reported €1.02bn on January 19, 2016 following the receipt of $725m from Gilead). The company has reiterated its 2016 operational cash burn guidance of €100m-€120m, leaving Galapagos is well financed for the medium term. Looking ahead, the coming year promises a wealth of newsflow for Galapagos: (i) Feedback from the end of phase ll meeting on Filgotinib (meeting expected to take place in April); (ii) Gilead confirmed in its earnings call yesterday that Filgotinib phase lll trials in RA and Crohn’s will start in Q3’16, and a phase ll trial in Ulcerative Colitis will also start in Q3’16; (iii) Several CF phase l trial starts this year, as well as phase ll data for GLPG1837 by YE’16.
Interessant.

Goede punten Aston aangaande CF-program.
Vooral biotech is volgens hem momenteel goedkoop. ''Before the selloff, health-care stocks enjoyed a five-year boom, yet stock prices, mostly drugmakers, overshot to the upside. It was natural for a correction to occur, yet it fed on itself, fueled in portion by a soft broader market and investor panic. So then stock prices overcorrected to the downside. Not regularly have actually I seen a selloff this severe.''''(...)They are cheap across the board—especially biotech, which is trading at the same price/earnings ratio as the broader index, which is unusual. Volatility throughout the sector will certainly keep on as brand-new technology disrupts markets and stock prices, yet the outlook for the sector is underpinned by continued M&A activity. Today, biopharmaceutical firm AbbVie. Strategic buyers take advantage of stock-price distress.'' ''(...)offered the pace of scientific innovation, which is merely as exciting today as it was eight months ago. There are exciting developments that haven’t been properly reflected in lots of stock prices over the past 10 months. (...) Among the big biotech names, Vertex Pharmaceuticals has actually a brand-new cystic-fibrosis drug that could be huge , and the company has actually merely started to turn a profit. The share price, however, got crushed last summer and is down 33% in 2016.''

Price Target $89 We derive our PT from a discounted cash flow analysis that uses a WACC of 12.5% with cash flow forecasts through the 2030E expiration of the filgotinib patents. The main drivers are filgotinib royalties/milestones and CF program royalties/milestones. Bull $132 DCF Filgotinib and CF assets are still the major driver, but we assume greater share in RA. We assume: 1) ~$1.3B in royalties on sales of filgotinib in RA and ~$300M in royalties on sales of filgotinib in Crohn's by 2030E; 2) Total filgotinib milestone payments of $1.35B; 3) CF program royalties of ~$900M by 2030E; 4) CF program development/commercial milestones of $350M. Base $89 DCF Filgotinib and CF assets drive our forecast. We assume: 1) ~$875M in royalties on sales of filgotinib in RA and ~$200M in royalties on sales of filgotinib in Crohn's by 2030E ; 2) Total filgotinib development/commercial milestones of $1.35B; 3) CF program royalties of ~$600M by 2030E; 4) CF program development/commercial milestones of $350M. Investment Thesis We are OW Galapagos as we believe that filgotinib and the CF pipeline are differentiated and can take share. Filgotinib has a differentiated profile versus its oral competitors - both Xeljanz and baracitinib. We believe it has best in class efficacy with a cleaner safety profile, especially on anemia. With additional positive data generated in Crohn's, we model peak filgotinib sales in RA and Crohn's of ~$4.5B by 2030E. The CF franchise has a competitive emerging profile with the second generation corrector entering the clinic in 2016 and preclincial data suggesting CFTR restoration rates above Kalydeco. We believe there is significant unmet need for new CFTR modulators/potentiators. Key Value Drivers The main drivers are advancement of filgotinib in RA and Crohn's and the CF pipeline. Risks to Achieving Price Target Development Risk: Phase III RA studies take significant time and the Phase II profile does not assure unknown side-effects in the larger Phase III program. Further, the CF assets are just entering the clinic, so safety/efficacy are not well understood. Approval Risk: Regulatory approval is not assured and there is potential for failure to gain approval in one or more geographies. Commercial Risk: The RA and CF markets are competitive with a number of marketed agents along with agents in development. Bear $19 Cash-based value Filgotinib and the CF pipeline assets fail but management continues to invest in R&D. We assume the cash/share value.
