LNG Powered Iron Ore Bulker HL Green Lands at Gwangyang for Posco

South Korean media reported that liquefied natural gas powered bulk carrier HL Green has arrived at Gwangyang in South Jeolla, with 180,000 tonnes iron ore to be supplied to Posco's steel factories. Measuring 292 meters in length, 45 meters in width and 24.8 meters in depth, Posco claims its HL Green bunk carrier is the largest existing LNG ship in the world. Posco said “This is the first case in the world that an LNG powered bunk carrier has operated on a route between countries. HL Green launched from Mokpo in South Jeolla on its first journey last December to pick up iron ore from Australia. With the load, it returned to Gwangyang.”

While the direct owner of the ships is H-Line Shipping, Posco signed a long term contract to ensure the two carriers will be used to transport the steelmaker’s materials. On January 26, the other LNG carrier HL Eco will arrive in Korea with coal from Australia.

The adoption of an eco friendly carrier is in line with strengthening regulations. From last year, the International Maritime Organization has obliged ships to use marine fuel with a sulfur content of no more than 0.5%, from the previous 3.5%. That meant shippers have to either replace their carriers with LNG-powered ships or install additional equipment to reduce sulfur emissions. Using LNG in place of bunker oil can reduce emissions of sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide by 99% and 85% each.

Equinor Takes Impairment at Tanzania LNG Project

Equinor has decided to write down the book value of its Tanzania LNG project on the company’s balance sheet by USD 982 million. This will be reflected in adjusted earnings for EPI division in fourth quarter 2020 results to be reported on 10 February 2021. While progress has been made in recent years on the commercial framework for TLNG, overall project economics have not yet improved sufficiently to justify keeping it on the balance sheet. The TLNG project has an anticipated breakeven price well above the portfolio average for Equinor and is, at this time, not competitive within this portfolio. Equinor will continue to engage with the Government of Tanzania in negotiations on a commercial, fiscal and legal framework that may provide a viable business case for TLNG in the future.

Equinor maintains an attractive portfolio of project development opportunities in oil and gas as well as renewables. This portfolio requires strict prioritization, ensuring capital is allocated towards projects yielding the most competitive returns. As shown at the Capital Markets Update in February last year, Equinor’s oil and gas projects with expected start-up by 2026 have an average breakeven below $35/bbl based on today’s estimates. Similar for non-sanctioned oil and gas projects with expected start-up within this decade, the average breakeven is below $40/bbl.

Equinor has been present in Tanzania since 2007 when the company signed a Production Sharing Agreement with the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation. Equinor is the operator with a 65% participating interest, along with ExxonMobil’s working interest of 35%. TPDC has the right to participate with a 10% interest. Equinor made nine gas discoveries in Block 2 offshore Tanzania with estimated volumes of 20 Tcf of gas in place.

Yamal LNG Arc7 Ice-Class Tankers Complete Voyages

PAO NOVATEK announced today that Arc7 ice-class Arctic LNG tanker Christophe de Margerie chartered by the Yamal LNG project successfully completed an independent passage along the Eastbound part of the Northern Sea Route on the 16th January, having reached the Bering Strait in 11 days with an average safe speed of 9.6 knots. The Christophe de Margerie was subsequently followed by a similar LNG tanker Nikolay Yevgenov, which is currently completing its independent passage along the NSR. Both LNG tankers will deliver approximately 140 thousand tons of LNG produced at Yamal LNG to destinations in the Asia-Pacific Region. The total time of cargo delivery by this route is 40% shorter than the traditional route through the Suez Canal.

Simultaneously, another Arc7 ice-class LNG tanker Nikolay Zubov, traveling in the opposite direction to the port of Sabetta after offloading its LNG cargo, entered the Westbound ice route along the NSR on the 6th January and subsequently reached the Ob Bay on the 17th January.

All three of the Arc7 ice-class LNG tankers independently passed the ice-covered part of the NSR, without ice-breaker support, along the navigational routes recommended by the State Research Center "Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute" and Atomflot’s Marine Operations Headquarters.

The aforementioned voyages took place in average ice conditions, two months after the end of the traditional navigation season in the Eastern part of the Arctic, which usually ends in November.

    Voda,

    - World: plus +0.1 graad celcius
    - Northern Hemisphere: plus +0.5 graad celcius
    - Artic: plus +0.4 graden celcius
    - Tropics: plus +0.2 graden celcius
    - Southern Hemisphere: minus -0.2 graden celcius
    - Antarctica: minus -0.6 graden celcius.

Life is about money and money only, certainly for ALL GOVERNMENTS!!!!!! Who cares about the Planet, certainly not all Governments.

Dit alles heeft dus totaal niets met de zogenaamde CO2 Global Warming Hysterie te maken.
Thank God there is more CO2 in Planet Earths Atmosphere.

    Eni Damietta Restarts LNG Production

The first LNG cargo from the Damietta liquefaction plant in Egypt was successfully produced and lifted. This is the first LNG cargo produced by the terminal after it was shut down in 2012. Such event represents an important milestone in the process to complete the agreement reached on December 1st 2020 aimed at settling all pending disputes between the parties and at restarting the operations at the plant.

At this stage the agreement has already received all the authorizations of the competent authorities and its final closing is expected in the first half of March.

The agreement comes at an important moment, when also thanks to the fast time to market of Eni's natural gas discoveries, especially the ones in the Zohr and Nooros fields, Egypt has regained its full capacity to meet domestic gas demand and can allocate surplus production for export through its LNG plants.

Eni Closes Pact for Restart of Damietta LNG Plant in Egypt

Eni announces that it has closed the agreement signed last December with the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company and the Spanish company Naturgy that will restart the Damietta liquefaction plant in Egypt, settle Union Fenosa Gas and SEGAS's outstanding disputes with EGAS and ARE, and effect a corporate restructuring of Union Fenosa Gas, whose assets have been divided between Eni and Naturgy, as well as of SEGAS which will now be owned 50 percent by Eni, 40 percent by EGAS and 10 percent by EGPC.

The liquefaction plant, owned by SEGAS, with a capacity of 7.56 billion cubic meters per year, which has been idle since November 2012, has resumed production. The first LNG cargo was carried out on February 22, followed by a second cargo on March 4, while a third, which is being loaded at the facility, will be sold directly by Eni to its customers in Europe.

The purchase of Egyptian LNG consolidates Eni's integrated development strategy by increasing the volumes and flexibility of its portfolio, in synergy with its upstream assets.

Through this agreement, the company strengthens its presence in the East Mediterranean, a key region for the supply of natural gas, which is a fundamental resource for the energy transition, of which Egypt is the main producer in the area.

As for Union Fenosa Gas' activities outside Egypt, Eni will take over the natural gas marketing activities in Spain, strengthening its presence in the European gas market.

The agreement comes at an important time when, thanks in part to the rapid entry into production of Eni's recent natural gas discoveries, especially from the Zohr and Nooros fields, Egypt has regained full capacity to meet domestic gas demand and can allocate excess production for export through LNG facilities.

    41,11 0,11 0,27 % Euronext Amsterdam

RWE Delivers LNG Cargo on Carbon Neutral Basis to POSCO

Through close co-operation RWE has arranged the delivery of a carbon offset cargo for its customer POSCO end of March. The cargo was delivered to the Gwangyang Terminal in South Korea. Under the agreement between RWE and POSCO, carbon emissions associated with the LNG cargo from wellhead to delivery, including exploration, production and transport, have been offset. This is achieved through the retirement of a corresponding amount of carbon credits, so called Verified Emissions Reductions certificates. High quality carbon credits have been sourced and independently certified under the internationally recognised Gold Standard, which adheres to strict environmental and social principles, and will be retired in order to compensate for the associated CO2 emissions of producing and delivering the cargo to Korea.

The carbon emission intensity of the cargo delivery was estimated using the Wood Mackenzie LNG Emissions Tool. RWE is now able to provide all its customers with the opportunity to offset carbon emissions related to LNG deliveries through the use of emission reduction certificates.

Severstal Deliver 27KT Large Diameter Pipes for Arctic LNG 2

PJSC Severstal has completed the supply of large-diameter pipes in the amount of 27 thousand tons for the development of the Salmanovskoye (Utrennoye) oil and gas condensate field under the Arctic LNG 2 project, which is being implemented by NOVATEK ". In the period from September 2020 to February 2021, the Izhora Pipe Plant (ITZ, part of the Severstal Russian Steel division) shipped large diameter pipes (LDP) in the range of 530-1420 mm with a three-layer polyethylene coating with a wall thickness of 14 to 26 mm made of steel of strength category from K50 to K60. Within the framework of this tender, Severstal also supplied 40 tons of LDP with a diameter of 1020 mm and a wall thickness of 26 mm in a cold-resistant design with a minimum operating temperature of -52 degrees. This is a unique product that has no analogues in Russia. Even at such a low temperature, the metal retains its ductility, which is important for the operational reliability of the gas pipeline in regions with extremely low temperatures.

Severstal offers customers unique trading solutions for the construction of LNG plants based on the production capabilities and products manufactured by the enterprises that are part of the structure of the company. For the construction of Arctic LNG 2, Severstal supplies the widest range of products from fittings, hardware and large-diameter pipes to the most sophisticated unique equipment, replacing imported counterparts.

In St Petersburg, Linde Severstal, a joint venture with Germany's Linde, is currently producing a spiral-wound heat exchanger (liquefier) for the Arctic LNG 2 project. The spiral wound heat exchanger (SVTO) is a key piece of equipment in natural gas liquefaction and processing plants. At the end of 2019, a 300-ton winding machine was purchased at the enterprise, which allows winding operations for large-capacity heat exchangers, which include a spiral-wound heat exchanger for Arctic LNG 2.

For the construction of Arctic LNG 2, Severstal-metiz (the enterprise is part of the Severstal structure) supplies fasteners, steel shaped profiles and reinforcing strands. High-strength fasteners are produced by Orlovsky Steel Rolling Plant in cooperation with the partner company Parallel, which applies a special thermal diffusion coating to the fasteners to protect them from corrosion. OSPAZ fasteners are used for fastening metal structures.

Severstal Distribution (Severstal's distribution network) supplies A600C and A500 valves for the construction of the Arctic LNG 2 liquefied gas plant. The total volume of supplies, starting from 2019, has already amounted to 92.5 thousand tons.

The Arctic LNG 2 project provides for the construction of three technological lines for the production of liquefied natural gas with a capacity of 6.6 million tons per year each and stable gas condensate up to 1.6 million tons per year. The total capacity of the three lines will be 19.8 million tons of LNG per year. The project is based on an innovative construction concept using gravity-based foundations in order to reduce capital costs and minimize the environmental impact of the Arctic region of Russia. The launch of the first line is planned in 2023, the second and third - in 2024 and 2026, respectively.

Eni & Zhejiang Energy to Work on LNG Business in China

Eni and Zhejiang Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding on strategic cooperation in the energy sector. The MoU establishes a cooperation framework aimed at facilitating joint initiatives between Eni and Zhejiang Energy across the gas and LNG value chain in China and internationally. The MoU builds on the companies’ shared goal of promoting a reduction in emissions by favoring a switch from coal to gas in the production of electricity. The initiatives identified in the MoU range from developing long term LNG supply agreement to joint participation in gas/LNG projects.

Using gas to produce electricity instead of coal reduces by as much as half the greenhouse gas emissions of a power plant, providing an immediate step forward in decarbonizing the sector.

For Eni, the MoU represents a further step in the energy transition process. The company has recently launched a new strategy, which will lead the company to be carbon neutral by 2050, in all its operations, processes and products. In the long term, gas – which will be increasingly decarbonized – will represent more than 90% of Eni’s production.

Eni has been present in China since 1984 and has recently established a new Representative Office in Beijing.

BMW MINI Plant Oxford Using Imperial LNG Lorries

A new fleet of trucks powered by liquefied natural gas is helping to drive sustainable logistics at MINI Plant Oxford. 18 LNG lorries from Imperial have now hit the road, transporting parts and components from suppliers on 15 different routes across the UK to the home of the MINI brand. LNG lorries have lower fuel consumption, produce fewer harmful emissions and are quieter on the roads. The new fleet has already delivered a reduction of approximately 20% in CO2 and NOX emissions, compared to diesel alternatives. In future, a total CO2 reduction of up to 90% is expected by using bio-LNG.

Imperial has successfully trialled LNG lorries in both the UK and Germany over the past 12 months. The company has installed its own LNG facility close to MINI Plant Oxford, which means vehicles on routes with limited refuelling opportunities can leave Oxford with a full tank before continuing their onward journey.

Hydro will adapt the calcination process and part of the steam generation at Alunorte to switch from fuel oil to natural gas as energy source. The supply of liquefied natural gas to Barcarena by New Fortress Energy is expected to start in 2022. According to the MoU signed with NFE on April 15, NFE expects to deliver a minimum agreed amount of natural gas to the refinery per year for a period of 15 years. The natural gas is expected to come from an LNG regasification terminal, which will be located near the Hydro Alunorte refinery in Barcarena.

Hydro Alunorte will be an important gas consumer in the state of Pará, and thereby an enabler for LNG installation in the region. Availability of natural gas is important for industrial development in the region and enables substitution of carbon-intensive fuels into natural gas with lower environmental impact.

The proposed agreement is subject to reaching commercial agreements and final documentation between the parties.

The project is supporting Hydro’s climate strategy and its global commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030.
